Summer Seed Box

...and the Decorating Domino Effect

A few weeks ago, I brought in a small white antique desk/table to the kitchen sitting area. I knew it would be crowded, but I was needing a change up in here and thought that would do the trick. I had it right where this chair is now sitting and it was so fresh and cute, not to mention another flat surface to decorate. I had fun with it for about a week, but then I realized that it was way too crowded in here, and the door to the deck bumped it each time we went out.

so cute...
but so in the way.

So boo-hoo, I made the decision to take it out.
It just wasn't working with the flow of things.

Then I was really bummed...
until I realized that it was the large kitchen table
that was really the problem in here.

That's what led to the decision to paint my little round oak table
to match the rest of the pieces and use it instead.
you know, the Domino Decorating Effect.

Since we could now only use two of the larger chairs with this table,
(when there's no leaf)
I had to have access for another chair, in case of company.
Who might actually want to sit at the table,
instead of realizing that in reality,
it's just a place to decorate.

So, a chair it is,
but I did bring in my picket fence gate for a backdrop.
and I really really love having it in here.

All this brings me to finding my favorite Mandeville & King Co. Seed Box,
and filling it up with summer vintage goods.
whew...long story.

The bright saturated colors of Late Summer
always make me want to bring out the reds, golds, greens, and oranges.
Just like a bunch of Zinnias;
full of eye popping color and fun.

an old rake head, a bee skep from last year,

and a couple of my majolica saucers...

don't forget the little birdie vase.

It's not a table, but every once in awhile common sense takes over...

...and a chair will just have to do.

  1. Smart and beautiful decorating. I think a smaller table is a great idea especially when you can pull more chairs in if needed. You have to have your pretty seed box out somewhere! The chair is perfect.

  2. Well, that's super cute too. See, that's really the problem - you have so many cute things to choose from, it's a problem. We readers could help you out on that front, just sayin'

  9. I think the chair looks pretty darn cute holding your seed box display! I struggle with the domino effect with every new project I start, but I think it's common among us bloggers, don't you?

  10. I'm the queen of the domino effect but I'm working on it! A smaller kitchen table is a great answer especially if you have a dining room for larger crowds. I love the seed box and are SO clever!!!
