Patio Seating Area

Hi, Everyone, hope you had a great Mother's Day weekend,
mine was nice, but pretty quiet.
My goal last week was to finally get the lower level patio sitting area cleaned and put together so we can have a place to sit and relax. This is under the deck, so it's somewhat covered, but not waterproof. I found the two seat cushions and bench cushion online at Lowe's, and they were just what I wanted. They're outdoor friendly and have the look of heavy linen or hemp in a dark khaki/taupe color. I wanted something neutral, that would match most of my pillows and quilts, and not show pollen/dirt/or grunge and I think these will work out fine.

This is just the basic layout, I have some tweaking to do. I have a large lantern that I've yet to find and a few other trays etc. but I at least have the essentials. The park bench is old and I've repainted it several times. It had been out in the elements in the back yard at the other house for years, so I'm glad that it was made well with heavy wooden seat boards. It weighs a ton, I can't even move it by myself. It received a good scrubbing and a few more coats of white exterior latex.

These pillows are from my stash and not weather resistant, so they'll come indoors or under cover when it's rainy (which has been this last several days). I did find some cute outdoor pillows at Lowes so I'll have them out most of the time. I'll show those when I get more accomplished out here.

This wicker rocker was on the sun porch at the old house.

You can see my green goat cart wheel in the background.
right now it's holding the outdoor pillows.

Since this area does have some "cover" I've had to make the decision to use my extra wicker pieces, since I don't have space for them in the house. I'm going to have to be diligent to blow them off with the leaf blower after rain, but it was either use them here or sell them and not have I'm using them.

Here's the potting bench directly across from the sitting area.
it's still a work in progress...

I'm just getting started on my container plantings out here. I want some "shade loving" containers for this area, I'm thinking a mix of Impatiens, variegated coleus, and some ivy. These are the sun-loving flower containers that I put together last week, but it's a big space so I need a few more accents out here. You can see some stakes in the background that are around some fruit trees that had been planted. I'm not sure what we have, but since there are 3 or 4 trees, I may feel like I'm living in an orchard. I'm worried that they will attract deer and I'm not thinking that's a good thing. They're fun to watch, but not while they're eating my plants and trees for lunch...

  1. I love this shaded patio area under your deck. You've made it so comfy with your pretty white wicker.
    Mary Alice

  2. Your patio area looks so inviting. I really love white painted wicker outside. I have a chair but couldn't leave it outside in this country in a million years, so much rain! You're potting area is looking great, love all your cute gardening paraphernalia.

  3. This is lovely, an outdoor room! I would love relaxing there!

  4. What a great area for your wicker furniture. It looks so good there, great place to sit and relax. Love the yoyo pillow,
    Have a great week Debra.

  5. Debra your backyard--from the glimpses I see--looks so pristine and pretty. I can't believe we moved near the same time. Wow. It's so enjoyable to see all your progress. The wicker looks perfect on your porch.

  6. I love the way you've fixed up your pretty outdoor area, Debra. Looks like a wonderful place to relax!

  7. You're smart to use the furniture that doesn't otherwise fit in your home, Debra, even if it eventually deteriorates. You'll be enjoying it a good number of years, and have no regrets for having sold it. It's all looking so good, and I can't wait to see the new cushions. Lowe's is a fun place to go this time of year. :) Btw, that Irish Spring soap trick I used for rabbits works for deer, one reader told me (at least for ground plants). You might try it, but deer are such indiscriminating animals, esp. the babies. They'll eat anything.

  8. Debra, this is so lovely and inviting. My under-deck area is NOT and I'd like it to be. When we were house-hunting two years ago, we fell in love with a gorgeous home (that went under contract before our old house did, so we lost out -- sad!) that had an amazing patio space under the deck and right off the basement. They'd had that under-deck system installed, so the area was completely covered. The seller had decorated the space similar to yours, and it overlooked a perfectly landscaped backyard, complete with climbing roses, hydrangeas, and lots of annuals. That patio and yours are my inspiration!

  9. That is such a nice area to relax outside. Some day I hope to have a nice comfy outdoor space to use.

  10. I don't blame you for using your wicker, it is beautiful! The pillows are all so pretty and look at home on your porch!

  11. It's beautiful but I knew it would be. :)

  12. Debra, it looks so lovely out there! I loved your wicker furniture at the other place. But I actually think I like them better here, with the soft green of the grass in the background. It looks very cozy.

  13. Your outdoor seating area looks so inviting Debra! I could spend hours out there.

  14. Debra, your yard is beautiful. I am with Pamela, I could spend hours out there.

  15. What a pretty spot! I love all your pillows:)

  16. Looks really nice and cozy. I also love wicker, seems to be the perfect outdoor furniture. Love the pillows too. Our front porch isn't covered and I constantly have to pull in the cushions when it rains and last year we had our back porch covered and love it.

  17. I love this space, Debra! Just looking out into the yard is relaxing and you have everything so cozy with the cushions and pillows. I need a few myself and I never thought to look at Lowe's. These are perfect. The wicker is very pretty and so versatile, I think you are going to love having it here.

  18. Hi Sweetie,
Love how you put your special touch on everything, and can't wait to see it after you are done tweaking!! Already so lovely!
Love the long cushion on the bench, too! So poofy and inviting!

    Hugs to you!

  19. Debra,
A gorgeous seating area, dear friend!!!
LOVE your bench and chair cushions!!!
Like you. . .it's pillows out. . .pillows in!!!
We need the rain so~o~o desperately, I try not to complain!!!
EnJOY this seating area and unwind every now and then!!!

  20. It looks lovely and so does your view! What a nice yard and wooded area in the background! Everything so lush and green...:)

  21. Very pretty, Debra! What a great sitting area. I love the cushions you found. They will work great with your pillows and quilts. Love the potting bench area, too. You yard looks like a park in the background of the pictures. I'm sure it will be very relaxing to sit here and enjoy it all!

  22. That is such a pretty area! I like how you are able to have a covered patio that way. Your wicker looks great outside. I have to use outdoor fabric on pillows on my porch due to the high humidity and sun we get. Otherwise everything would be mildewed. It's nice that they can be bleached and hosed off when necessary too.

  23. Debra,
Your under-deck patio is the perfect spot for your wicker. You now have someplace nearby, comfy, and beautiful to sit when you take breaks from working at your potting bench. This area is coming together beautifully. I loved your sun porch at your last house, but love this area even more since it has a potting bench.

  24. Everything looks so clean and fresh and ready to enjoy for the season. I am working on my front porch as we speak. I found some great outdoor cushions at a store called At Home. Use to be the old Garden Ridge Pottery if you have those in your area. Great deals and wonderful selection. My dogs make them selves right at home on my outdoor furniture , as much as I shoo them off, they still manage to get comfy so I am changing them out every season.

  25. What a beautifully inviting area! What a nice place to relax on summer evenings. :)

  26. Love your pretty sitting area Debra and your new hemp cushions and pillows! It goes without saying that I love your sweet potting area too! I spent all day last Friday moving all our porch furniture off and hosing everything down to get rid of the pollen *achoo* :)

  27. Debra, it really looks like a wonderful space to relax and enjoy your gardens! Love the cushions and the pillows you have out there. I have a red wicker chair that has been in my home for years. I took it outside and now the paint is chipping. I was thinking of spraying it. Do you put a sealer or anything on yours for protection? I agree, the deer are fun to watch, but they can sure destroy your plants. Our backyard was a common route for the deer until we fenced. Just had to or have no garden. Thanks for sharing with SYC.

  28. Oh Debra, this is such a great space!!! I can't wait to get my porch cleaned off, hopefully this week! I've been waiting for all the pollen to settle and I think it finally has.
Thanks so much for sharing at AMAZE ME MONDAY!
