Around the house...

I've had a few things I wanted to share with you, just little things around the house. Some small additions and changes, so I thought I'd lump them all together in one post. I found this wonderful pillow last month in Ozark at one of my favorite stores, The Feathered Nest. It was made by one of the owners; hand painted in a wonderful Old World calligraphy style. I use this in the Master Bedroom, but I brought it into the Dining Room for better light, then paired it up with a couple of my flea find pillows, that I use on the sunporch.

Can you see "Paris" on the bottom?

Loved the back closure with raw edged ties.

While Anne was here we did a little shopping downtown and I found this great wicker trunk. It's really a nice size for some storage. (just as long as I don't put something in here, then forget where it is...I've been known to do that once or twice.) It was just $30. I see these frequently, new and used, for about $75, so it felt like a good buy.

I wanted to give it a French Gray wash, so I used a little spray paint,
but that wasn't doing it for me, so I did a dry brush of antique white and gray latex.

I think I'd like to try a French stencil on top or the front...
not sure, but I'm thinking about it.

AND, finally some photos of the new floral pillows I made for the Living Room sofas. They're pretty plain, no fancy schmancy stuff, but just what I wanted to bring in a little different feel for Fall.

We're having a little rain this weekend; we are still so far below normal. But here in Missouri, September is a rainy month. You won't believe this, but with the cooler weather, look what I have in the back yard...

The extreme heat and drought almost killed the hydrangea bushes this year, but they're trying to rally in the more mild temperatures.

  1. Debra,
Your newest pillow find with its handpainted message is exquisite!!! I adore the color palette in your new handmade pillows!!! Those would work wonderfully in my Master Bedroom! Oh,...and does that room ever need a refreshing...perhaps AFTER vacation??? Your wicker basket turned out beautifully with the paint technique! Have a wonderful week ahead! The rain has been such a "shower of blessings"; however there is rumor of return of the upper 90's here on my end of the Prairie! I am SO~O~O ready for September (Seasonal ) weather!!!
    Fondly,
    Pat

  3. Your new pillows are very pretty and will look perfect into Fall. They remind me a bit of the old bark cloth with lovely floral prints. Hopefully the rain will be enough to give those hydrangeas a big drink ;)

  9. Love how the wicker basket came out... and yes, the stencil idea on top would be the "finishing" touch..
I often pass up things that I should not because they are not the right color.. just need to d-r-a-g out the paints and fix em up !

  12. Debra, that little pillow is adorable! Love the script! And your pillows are pretty darn fabulous, as well!! The wicker basket is a lovely addition to your home; and I could see a lovely french stencil on top. Very pretty!

  13. If I ever learn to sew I fear I will never stop...I keep seeing such cute pieces all over blogland. I wish I could make my own pillows. Someday I will just sit down and try. I like the positioning of the basket at that entry point...my mom has one of those exactly like it... her's is still the original brown. She's had it as long as I can remember, even when we didn't have much. She still uses it for hats and mittens like she did many years ago.

  14. I love you new goodies! That pillow is so pretty with that style font for the lettering. Also, your wicker trunk is wonderful! I do think using a stencil for some letters or numbers in black would make it even more french looking. I've done that with quite a few of my baskets. It instantly makes them look older and European! Looks like the hurricane changed course and is now not in our direct path. Now we all have to worry about New Orleans though. Maybe it will bring you some much needed rain too.

  21. Your new pillows are very pretty. I love the two you made. I also love the wicker trunk especially after you painted it. I'm moving things around here today too. We had rain last night and it was such a relief. Yes, we need that to happen a bunch more to make up for all we've done without. My hydrangeas did nothing this year. I swear I am moving them next spring to a better spot.

  39. How beautiful your house is. I love the newest pillow and the ones you made are perfect.
Love the paint job on the little chest. Isn't wicker hard to stencil on? I tried to do it on a basket once and it didn't work very well. I'll watch and see how you do it and maybe I can learn.:))
