The Heart of the Home

We've heard the phrase
"the Heart of the Home",
and yes, the kitchen truly is.
So I'm sharing a few photos today of my kitchen.

We moved here over 7 years ago,
so neither of our girls lived here growing up,
but they both feel this house is "home" to them.

Our kitchen furniture was purchased new,
but now I would have purchased an old farm table
and an old cupboard.

I've thought about painting the cabinets distressed off white, but I just can't get there.
My trim is white and my furniture is off white and my appliances are almond.
So I can't imagine how it would all fit together.

Oh Well, it's as it is...

Even though my table is not old, I do love the style.
It has a leaf and expands to fit 8,
so Christmas breakfast, the table is full.

I recently redid the top of the china cabinet
by bringing in an old piece of painted tin, a basket of fall goodies,
and a plate holder with ironstone pitchers.

Thank goodness the rusty crustiness is up and away from the table!

My favorite spot in the house is my sunroom,
right off the kitchen.
It's my seasonal "show off",
and a great place for napping kitties.

Ladies, I'm so glad I've joined the parties.
My counter tops needed a big cleaning!

This silver tray on the island holds my seasonal vignette for the kitchen.
Always a bouquet in the Homer Laughlin Ironstone Pitcher.

I DO have a new ceramic stove top,
which I dealy love!

"Smiley" and I are so glad you came to visit today
Hope you're feeling "at home".

Vintage Inspiration #6 Porch Party!!

Hi Everyone!
Today is the day for the
Fall Porch Party
here at
Vintage Inspiration Friday!

Welcome to my Home

Our house faces south, but with all the large trees around here,
we don't get a lot of sun on the porch.
And since my hard maple in front,
doesn't show Fall color till later this month,
I have a lot of shade and dappled sunlight.

I love having a front porch, wish it was larger,
but I enjoy decorating what I have,
and the stairs give me a great place to display my mums and pumpkins.

Earlier, I was trying to think of what to use this year on the porch,
Then I remembered my concrete planters in the back full of impatiens.
They were repotted and I hauled these babies up front,
to hold my mums.
(And I do mean HAULED)
HEAVY!!!

I have several vintage metal picnic tins,
and love to include them in my vignettes
since I can cram fill them full of vintage goodies and plants.

These little guys were needing a big drink.
I love mums and pumpkins of every color and variety.

My orange watering can is hiding back there.

super duper cute curly stem on this one

Love my little "Half" park bench chair
although my son in law fusses every time they have to drag luggage
through the front door..."hey", Keith!!

I've had mysweet little concrete Momma and Baby squirrels for over 20 years.

Hope you'll  join in on the party!
Just grab a pumpkin,
and your camera,
and take a pic.

Remember, even if your not doing your porch today,
please join in with whatever vintage inspiration
that you may have!

October Give Away!!!

Just be a party goer and you're automatically entered!

Have a Wonderful Inspired Week!

Wicker Wonderland

Over the summer we redid a couple of our lower level family room areas.
We exchanged the office area of my husband's
and a sitting area where I have my white wicker.

I debated whether or not to show this right now,
because...well...it's really not where I want it to be.

White wicker has always been  a compulsion of mine
and a point of contention between my husband and I.
I can't resist it...
He doesn't like having to fall over it in the garage.

I've had these white wicker pieces for several years
and I have had a few other pieces that were...
yes... gathering dust in the garage.

So when we rearranged the basement
I found that my hoarding instinct had been right after all.

A few other pieces were right for the re-do.
My gallon of off white Behr paint
made some magic with a library/dining table
and a round repurposed pedestal table turned coffee table.

I haven't finished some feed sack pillows that I have been trying to put together,
and the wall behind the sofa looks sort of bare.
I want to add an architectural piece, a mirror...something,
just not sure yet.

We've really enjoyed having this area,
we seem to gravitate there for coffee and conversation.

I found this great grain sack table runner from Lidy at Frenchgarden House.

And check out this miniature wheelbarrow that's holding
pumpkins and squash,
and some tiny gardening tools.

So this may be seeing some more change
as the weather gets cooler and I have time for a few more projects.
And I've learned something in all this...
use it or lose it!

I'm linking up with
 Marty for Table Top Tuesday
Kathleen for White Wednesday

Hope everyone is having a great week!

love y'all,
Debra
