Summer Majolica

(sharing a post from a few summers ago...)

Hi Everyone, I hope you were able to catch a few of the lovely Summer Home Tours that were a part of A Stroll Thru Life, Marty's, Home Tour Series. I shared a few pics from my Summer Sitting Area in the Kitchen, and here are a few more from the Baker's Rack showing a few pieces of my Majolica.

Spring Bouquet and the Baker's Rack

Taking photos in the Kitchen and Kitchen Sitting Area can be a little tricky. The light comes from the South and Southwest, so it's often harsh and blinding. I try to wait for a cloudy day, but even then the pics can be lackluster. Late this afternoon I grabbed my camera and changed the lens to try to get a few close-ups with better color... a little better...

Lambs and Ivy

Every once and awhile I run across something that I haven't shared with you before.
At the old house this wonderful old fruit crate hadn't made it past the garage
 "shop inventory".
Now at the new house, it again migrated to the garage.
I'm not sure why except that I've just never known what to do with it...
pretty lame excuse.

Christmas Fun on the Baker's Rack

I always like to keep the Baker's Rack in the Kitchen Sitting Area as a place to have some fun with vintage pieces. And what can be more fun than Vintage with some Christmas Cheer. The Baker's Rack is my place to mix and match and bring out the Kitsch for the Holidays.

Late Summer Kitchen Sitting Area

I've piddled around with this kitchen sitting area post so long,
that if I don't show you all soon,
I'm going to be ready to change it up to be the
"Early Fall Kitchen Sitting Area".

Styling a DIY Seedbox for St. Patty's Day

All it takes is a few sunny days where the temps are 50 and above and you'll find me puttering around with seed boxes, seed packets, and some old gardening tools. This week will be the "official" start of Spring so I'm having fun bringing a little green for St. Patrick's Day onto the Baker's Rack in the kitchen sitting area.

A Little Christmas in the Kitchen

Hey Everyone! I hadn't planned on being away from the blog all this week. After all, it's Christmastime and there's so much fun decorating inspiration going on. I was on a roll last weekend, then the week got away from me, and now I'm running behind. But I wanted to share a few pics from what's going on in the kitchen.

It's always fun to decorate the Baker's Rack...

...and I have a few of my vintage Shiney Brite trees out.

Santa's taking a breather on a cupcake pedestal...

and you can see I have lot's of help from the fur girls.

Hmmmm...
how to reach those shiny toys hanging from Mom's chandy?

I have a lot more to share, just need to finish things up, and get ready as I'll be joining Sherry from No Minimalist Here next week for the Christmas Open House Blog Hop.

Hope you'll join us starting Wednesday December 10-12.
see you then!

Kitchen Baker's Rack...it's back!

I know many of you are thinking "Christmas" about now... me too. I'm loving seeing all the Christmas ideas and inspiration out here, and I'm making plans. I go through this every year... I get antsy to decorate for Christmas, but I can't get there quite yet. I really need to celebrate Thanksgiving, first.

I really couldn't decorate for Fall at the lease house because we were packing and moving. I put out a few things there, but being in transition, I didn't get the full effect of enjoying Autumn.

So the first thing I wanted to do as we moved in to the new house on October 31, was to bring out some of my Fall wool plaid blankets, pillows, and Thanksgiving Turkeys.

So I hope you'll bear with me as I share a little November decor.

I've mentioned that I've been able to squeeze a few of the pieces I had in the sunporch into the kitchen here, to make up for not having a sunroom or porch. The wicker settee, a wicker chair, and the baker's rack all share the eat-in kitchen space. (just like the lease house) In some ways it's better, because the sunporch had no heat or air, and by this time of year, I couldn't really enjoy it on a daily basis. If we had company or a family gathering I brought in a space heater, but otherwise it was usually too chilly.

If the baker's rack looks a little sparse, it's because when these pics were taken, I still hadn't opened all the boxes marked "baker's rack". I got to them today, but I'm planning a little kitchen spot in the lower level, so I'll have some fun displays down there.

Here's a peek at how things are coming together in the kitchen dining area. Do you remember that old chippy white door? It looks pretty small here. This room has higher ceilings than the sunporch, so it looks pretty dinky. I haven't hung any prints or items on the walls yet; I've been waiting to unpack all the boxes of prints first. I'm not wanting to make any mistakes with a bunch of holes on those "perfect griege" walls!

Our younger daughter Aly has been helping me unpack, and I couldn't have made this move without her. I've always been the person who would and could, work all night or until the job was done. I can't do that anymore, so I want to give her credit for being there when I've really needed her. Here's a pic of both my pretty girlies taken a few years ago. Aly on the left, Erin our St. Louis gal is on the right. Don't know what I'd do without them. They're the best.

OK, so I have a few more pics of Fall and Thanksgiving stuff.
I like to have the blog as a diary of my Holiday decorating,
so hope you all won't get too bored.
Believe me, I'm ready to haul in all those tubs of Christmas fun!

xoxo,

A Summer Baker's Rack

Do you ever get this urge for something
and you just don't give up until you find it?
of course you do...
I'm going to believe that's a good trait to have
and not some kind of borderline personality disorder... te he

Well, I had a bee in my bonnet for a bee skep...
I just had to have one for my summer Baker's Rack in the sitting room.

Actually, I wanted one to use in my French Garden Frame,
but the more I thought about it the more I wanted one
just to display for the Summer Version on my baker's rack.

I haven't changed much up lately,
but having a bee skep always reminds me of a French Country Garden.

This little skep isn't very big,
but I can just imagine it in a lavender filled garden...
maybe soon.

I always enjoy my little French Garden Girl lamp here,
I light her up every evening for a sweet warm glow.

I'm really missing my sunflower displays this year.

but I have my "sheeps" that always hang out here...

Also want to share this little bit of history...

I had to brush up on my historical knowledge of Shakespeare on this little celluloid print. It's a rendering of Anne Hathaway's cottage (Shakespeare's wife) in Stratford-Upon-Avon. It looks like it might have been a souvenir of a trip in the 20's or 30's.

We're finishing up the house business...
and will be closing on it soon.
Everything's out and clean.
Now I just want to start looking for a new home,
but we've decided to take our time and not be rushed.

oooh, that's so hard,
I'm itching to get settled!

Hope you're having a wonderful week,

Kitchen Sitting Room

I was ready to show you a new tabletop vignette I had put together when I realized that I hadn't shown the rest of the Kitchen Sitting Room pics. This space is such a departure from what I had at the other house, but still "my style". I had been concentrating on just whites in the small kitchen eating area, so it was fun to bring in some "woods" over here. I like a mix of the woody tones and whites and neutrals, and having this unexpected space off the kitchen, I have been able to use some pieces I never thought I'd be able to.

This big armoire was in the basement holding quilts and pillows, but since I needed extra storage for pantry items in here, I brought this with us. I had originally hoped to put the tv in here but it took up valuable shelf space, so it's on a separate wicker table.

Yes, it's black on the sides. The girls that had this piece in their shop were spray paint "happy" back before chalk paint came along. They just painted the two sides, (glad they didn't mess with the front of it) but when we get settled, it probably will get a paint makeover...not sure what color.

The two large breadboards are from Antique Farmhouse,
and the laundry basket is filled with extra linens.

I found the French Cheese sign at Robin's Vintage Suitcase.

This little shepherdess is one of my all-time favorite prints,
it was in the powder room right off the kitchen in the old house.
I love this dark comb painted frame.

I told you about this antique table and chairs here.
It still has initials carved in the top from one of the kiddo's guy friend's.
When I found out, I thought of man-handling him...
good thing he could run really fast.

sorry, sort of blurry

The kitty girls had to find new napping spots here,
so this is now a fave.
Bonus is that the grain sack replica is burlap,
so when she's not napping she can chew on it.
(Madonna Pillow from Elliot-Heath Designs)

One of my milkmaid prints is hanging here,
the other one had such a heavy frame
I didn't want to put in the wall anchor for it.

I'm so glad I was able to use this wicker settee that had been on the sunporch.
It's my new coffee drinking spot first thing in the morning.

An old bench is doubling for a small coffee table.
Just big enough for one of my black tole trays.

Toffee Check Chair Pads from Ballard Designs.

I don't think I've ever shared this old ironstone hexagon shaped tureen bottom;
another basement decor piece.
(I had all kinds of things hidden down there!)

Cute little English Cottage Salt and Pepper.
