A Season of Thanks Blog Hop

Hello Friends, Welcome to
"A Season of Thanks" Blog Hop!

We all have our favorite Holidays, and for most people it's usually Christmas. But for me it's always been Thanksgiving. With Fall being my favorite season, it's just natural that the warmth and love of family and friends lends itself to the this wonderful Holiday celebration. Our favorite Hop Hostess,  Amber from Follow the Yellow Brick Home has gathered a group of us to share our love of Thanksgiving with all of you. If you're coming from Marty's place at A Stroll Thru Life, Hello, I'm so glad you're here! If you haven't visited Amber and Marty, please be sure and catch them during the Hop.

Scenes from the Late October Dining Room

Hi Friends, I need to share the rest of my Dining Room,
before it's time to change things up for Thanksgiving...

For me, decorating is a "process". Even the seasonal decorating. I have certain pieces I like to use and keep them as a basic part of the landscape. The large metal Italian basket is one of those basic pieces on the Dining Room table. The basket is big and makes a statement. The heavy chairs are also big, so whatever is on the table has to be bigger. It's also easy to add and subtract floral elements to keep the basket seasonal.

October on the Washstand

I've been having  a little problem keeping myself focused on accomplishing decor tasks lately. I've called it DADD before, but I don't want to be callous or offend anyone who genuinely deals with ADD. I'm dealing with (Decorating) ADD. I just have more space to play in than I've had before, and a lot of fun Fall stuff to use.

Dining Room with Late-Summer Sunflowers

I'm here in the Dining Room today,
adding a few late-summer sunflowers
to the table and buffet bringing a little pre-harvest color.

Vintage Paper Heart Garland with Love

A few weeks ago I was admiring a post from Angie at Postcards from the Ridge and fell in love with a vintage paper garland she had purchased from Etsy a few years ago. Now, I don't want to be labeled a "copy cat", but I went right to the Etsy Shop, LaCasaMia, and ordered one for myself. I DO love vintage ephemera and paper collage pieces, so I was so excited to see it arrive a few days ago all the way from Belgium.

Hello February at All About Home #25

Hi Friends, so glad you're here!
Everyone glad we're on to February? January is always a hard month because we have the anticlimax of "after Christmas" and things just seem sort of blah to a lot of us. I'm ready for all the fun of Valentine's Day and some "sweet" inspiration.  You too? so you've come to the right place. Let's have some fun this month!

French Farmhouse Table in the Dining Room

My last post I was telling you all about my after Christmas need for a more neutral palette. I always love a lot of color at the Holidays and I sort of overdid it this year here at the new place. I'm kinda over red/green for now. I'll be ready for some red again next month for Valentine's Day, but for now, my eyeballs need a break.

French Country Elements in the Dining Room

My focus on getting back in the decor groove after the Holidays has been on my Dining Room table. At the beginning of the New Year I tend to want to go with more neutral elements since I'm usually oversaturated with color from Christmas. I've been gathering inspiration for a French Country Farmhouse feel that I could use in my Dining Room without going shopping.

Vintage Christmas

Christmas Eve?
I can hardly believe it.
Family will be here soon!
There just wasn't enough time to get all the photos shared,
so I'm going to post pics and be light on words,
otherwise things won't get done!
Anyone else in my shoes house slippers?

Quick peek at the Dining Room
and my favorite corner of the house.

The Fall Dining Room and Needlepoint Pumpkins

It's now October, but since the weather hasn't been very Fall-like, I'm still feeling the need for the "lighter version" of Fall Decor. When I was first adding Fall to the Dining Room I was going for Fall colors, but not anything dark and heavy. I don't want a bunch of that when it's 90 degrees outside. I started thinking about maybe using a vintage print on the buffet that had all the Fall feels, but still added some lighter color and a little "white".

Fall Vignette on the Washstand

I have a favorite little corner in the Dining Room that's not easily seen from the rest of the house. It's only visible if you walk from the kitchen to the Dining Room, but it has some very sweet vintage pieces. The washstand with the marble top was in my childhood home, right inside our Entry at the old farmhouse. I've had it for the last almost 20 years, and finally painted it a few years ago to become the lovely little cabinet that it is today.

Sunflowers for a Late Summer Dining Room

Since August shows up a little later in the week, I'm adding some "Late Summer" color with Sunflowers. They're the perfect way to transition into Early Fall. Real or faux, spread them around for some "happy face" time. You just can't look at Sunflowers without a big smile showing up. I'm adding a touch of "Late Summer" here in the Dining Room on the buffet with a few Sunflowers and prints.

A few more touches in the Dining Room

Over this last weekend we finally got a few things up on the walls. We've had so much to do, and my hubby only has the weekends to help me do things, so this decor fun was moved on down the list. I explained to him that I needed to share some things that were not Garden Room or Hearth Room related here on the blog, haha. Time to get to share some other rooms.

New House Journal: Living and Dining Rooms and a New Recliner

We had a busy last week with another partial move and then working over the weekend at the new house. This last trip we got my office furniture, most of the Living Room, more basement stuff, guest bedroom and the big room size rugs for the Living Room and Dining Room that I cleaned last weekend. Phone pics ahead; sorry for the less than perfect images.

New House Journal: New Hardwoods and Carpet

This post is probably way more exciting for me personally than for any of you readers, but it's part of my documenting the progress of our new house. When we first walked into the Entry, other than notice the shiny ceilings, was the fact that the formal living and dining rooms were covered in carpet. Now I have nothing against carpet as you will see, but I really wanted hardwood floors this next time around.

Spirit of Christmas Past: Entry in White

Hi Friends, I'm really missing not being able to decorate for Christmas this year. I didn't get to decorate for Fall either, but I knew that wouldn't happen from the minute we signed papers on the new house. But... I had hopes that we'd maybe be moved in by the end of November. As we started working at the new place more and more projects that needed to be done came to our attention, so now it's December and we are still working. At this point I'm hoping to move at the first of the year. I'm not complaining because I want things accomplished before we get there. So I'm doing a little reminiscing.

Rustic French Fall Decor

I'm in the middle of messy packing mode, but I'm still looking for Fall Inspiration. Nothing over-the-top, but some subtle color changes and natural vignettes. I thought I'd share some classic French Country Autumn seasonal decor with you today from previous Septembers. I like to look back through the archives and see what I was doing "this time of year" from years ago.

New House Journal: Dining Room Chandy

We're making progress through the process of buying this house. This last week we've negotiated the inspection results; nothing major or deal breaking, just little things that need to be taken care of. This is an older home, built in the 60's, and even though it's been partially renovated there are still lots of updates we need to finish. Looks like it needs a small amount of roof repair, some tree limbs hanging on electrical lines... the things I never wanted to worry about again. We realized a while back that to get the usable space on one level we need, we have to go with an older home. We've researched the new custom home route and that's not something we want to go through now. We don't want to be further out of town, and that's what we'd be getting with a subdivision of new builds. I talked some about our decision making process in my last post. I'm excited about all that's ahead with this big project, but I still feel I need to explain our decision. Maybe I'm still trying to convince myself, haha. I know that sometimes our big life choices are not so easy to make. But then again, that IS life isn't it? Stepping out in Faith to do what we feel God is directing us to do.

Easy Neutral Decor in the Entry

This post is about 2 or 3 weeks behind schedule, since everyone is moving on to Valentine's Day decor. I think there are a lot of us who like to use our blog as a visual diary of our projects and decorating. So even though it's time to add in a little Valentine's this week, I want to share January's Entry and Dining Room with you all.
