Last week I worked on getting my front porch presentable and decked out with a Patriotic Summer vibe. During the summer months I keep a red/white/blue theme with pillows, flowers, and my door basket. I add in flags the last couple of weeks of June into July and then remove them after that first week of July. That color scheme works throughout Summer until late August when I start bringing in some sunflowers and early Fall colors.
I've mentioned that I can't put out a basket during Spring because of the finches prolific nest building. Honestly, you can remove debris in the morning and it's back by afternoon. They are stubborn little cuties, but birdbrains.
I like a pretty wreath, but they aren't really doable here either because the birds dismantle anything "twiggy" for nest material, so it's hit or miss until summertime. I guess by that time they've given up and found other spots for nests.
Because I was running behind getting things together last week I just "re-shared" my pics from last summer which are pretty much the same as this summer, but I didn't have my basket ready. So these pics are from this week when I finally got the door basket up. I literally have tons of ribbon for any holiday you can imagine, but I wanted to use indigo ticking with this because of the bright bold check on the pillows on the porch bench. I didn't have any ticking ribbon wide enough, so I improvised by "tearing" a section of ticking fabric to make my own "ribbon".
The ribbon length may be a bit too long so I think I'll trim a few inches off each side. When it's windy the ribbon blows around and sets off the "ring" doorbell. Lights and buzzers go on and it's a bit un-nerving. Then to find the video of ribbon flying around. My husband isn't a fan...
Here are a few more pics from my Pinterest Board Patriotic Red, White, and Blue for some ideas on patriotic door baskets. Hopefully, without birds!

As you can see, I'm basically using the same florals as last year, but with a little tweaking. I love using the red, white, and blue faux florals of hydrangeas and geraniums. I'll be adding the flags in around the middle of the month.
Here's the updated version for later on in the summer, I just added in a few black-eyed daisies to make it work with more color, and removed the flags.
As you can see it's easy to create a door basket design that can be used throughout the summer with just a few adjustments with florals and ribbon.
Here's the front porch scene.
Thanks so much for coming by, friends! Hope you're having a great week.

ReplyDeletethanks so much Kris. Hope you're having a wonderful week!
DeleteI love all these baskets. You always do a beautiful job on your porch. Finches are pretty but they sound a bit of a handful for you. We don't have problems with wreaths luckily. Pinned!
ReplyDeleteYour basket is so pretty! They're all great inspiration since I really need to get around to hanging a summer wreath! I'm visiting from Katherine's Corner. If you get a chance, hope to have you stop by & share on Crafty Creators Link Party. Have a great weekend!

I love this so much! We have swallows that build nests around our front door, so I can feel your pain. I think the basket is a great idea instead of the twig wreath and I love how you styled it. Thanks for sharing at the Home Imagined Link Party :)
