Autumn Tray in the Dining Room

Hi Friends, welcome to the Autumn On A Tray Tour, hosted by our lovely friend, Katherine of Katherine's Corner. If you're following the Tour Links and are coming from visiting MaryJo at Masterpieces of My Life, then a special "Hello" to you and I'm so glad you came by to visit.

A perfect way to decorate for any holiday or season, big or small, is by creating a small vignette using a tray. I've been using trays for years to corral all my smaller elements of a grouping. I love to decorate with vintage items and enjoy bringing like minded small items together for accent pieces. I often have some sort of greenery or floral arrangement, a candle, teapot and cups, and smaller seasonal accessories in one cohesive grouping.

Trays are a great way to decorate in a small space in that they become a focal point for the eye, and if needed, they can be moved around to other rooms or spaces. If you like keeping a tray for practical purposes like tea or coffee, books, plants, stationary, etc, they can all be tweaked for seasonal and holiday motifs. Trays are a great way to do some quick and easy decorating with big impact.

I have a large, visually heavy dining room table that I need to use a large centerpiece on. I've tried smaller arrangements and they just get lost or covered up by the slipcovered chairs. Most of the time the centerpiece is a large Italian metal basket that contains faux ivy, hydrangeas, and seasonal flowers, leaves and twigs. I painted it a French Gray several years ago, and I usually add some other items on the tabletop for a seasonal or holiday tableau.

Since this is a more formal sitting I thought I'd use one of my English Sadler teapots that often sits in the Dining Room China Cabinet. Being fall, I thought I'd group not only seasonal items, but pieces that were orange or with Autumn hues. Groupings of color related objects works so well in seasonal groupings.

I love using vintage items together in a small grouping, especially small items that hold sentimental significance. I found these wonderful vintage tapestry pumpkins several years ago, that I've been fortunate to collect a few of. Pears and pumpkins go hand in hand in my Fall decor, so a large vintage ironstone tureen holds faux pears. The tureen joins antique books that elevate the teapot, the collectible tapestry and velvet pumpkins, and a vintage orange small glass compote that all compliment the setting.

For some added interest I brought a metal postcard holder
with vintage seasonal cards into the mix.

This British Castles teapot depicts Caernarfon Castle in Wales
which was a fortress/ palace built in 1285.

I love using a layered look on the tabletop with tablerunners. All the dark heavy wood furniture dominates the space and a lighter print across the table helps so much to break up and lighten the atmosphere.

Here are a few other trays I'm using around the house this fall...

Thanks so much for coming by to visit. Fall is my favorite time of the year, so if you're new I hope you'll come back by and join in on all the Autumn fun. You can continue the Tray Tour and hop on over to visit Jenny at Not Entirely Average.  And be sure and head over to visit Katherine at Katherine's Corner also, if you'd like to start the tour at the beginning. Have fun and enjoy visiting!

  5. Do you know, for some 30 odd years, I have been carrying two pieces of antique fabric from house to house in move after move, unable to part with them for reasons I cannot explain. Today, and ONLY after seeing your fabric pumpkins, do I know exactly what I plan to finally use them for. Your tray is not only gorgeous and interesting, but also inspiring. I can't sew, but I'll figure it out because now I want these! Warmly, Jenny from Not Entirely Average :)

  6. Omgosh! Where to begin? I love it all. That teapot is everything, but the tapestry pumpkins are so incredibly unique and the faux pears are such wonderful quality that I would have presumed they were real unless you mentioned otherwise. Your arrangement and composition of everything, like always, is spot on! It's wonderful fun to be touring with you today. XO- MaryJo

  16. I love the layered elegance of your tray/vignette. Each item is interesting in itself and supports the others in color, texture or form. I love how the ivy spills out of the basket, then the pears and pumpkins continue the movement down and across the tray. Quite beautiful! Enjoyed touring with you

  21. Ok so I absolutely love yours! I love the tapestry pumpkins, the teapot, the tray, books and pears all so beautifully put together! I gave Bev at Eclecticbarn number one but to be honest your are both number 1 for me. I actually have 3 number “1” because I also love Barbara at mantle and table and she too deserves a number “1”! Those tapestry pumpkins are fabulous! The breadboard was appealing on Bevs as well as that pumpkin and Barbara has the most beautiful gold cup and saucer as well as those fabulous napkins which I plan to order. Please if you can, share this message with the others.
These bloggers all deserve a thank you for their contributions, so thank you!
