Summer to Fall Garden Florals in Vintage Containers

Today I thought I'd share a few pics and posts with my garden grown Hydrangeas from this house. I've really enjoyed the large lush bush out front and start snipping those blooms in late June for display and drying. After a few weeks of enjoying the fresh cuttings, they can be dried into lovely delicate dried specimens that range from delicate pinks and greens to darker mauves and purples in the Fall.

This is a post from last summer where I've mixed real dried hydrangeas
and faux blooms in a vintage wired basket.

Last fall I used darker hued dried hydrangeas in ironstone vessels in the

In October I gathered an armful of gorgeous Oak Leaf Hydrangeas with foraged leaves from the yard and garden for an impromptu bouquet on the potting bench on the back porch.

Earlier in August I gathered a bunch of container flowers like mini zinnia varieties and foraged items with a birdhouse and old flower pots on the back porch for a

I also used walnuts, acorns, and bird seed in clay pots.

Another potting bench post with hydrangeas in ironstone for

And a late July grouping on the farm table for

Well... I need to be transparent about why I'm reminiscing over Hydrangeas mixed with summer florals right now. To be honest, last Fall we did some major pruning of the shrubs and bushes that were totally out of control. We got out the garden pruners and went to town. At that point I was ruthless with some of the older bushes that had been placed too close together 15 or 20 years ago. That's one of my pet gardener's peeves... Haphazardly planting shrubs and trees with no thought to the space that is needed for a mature plant. My husband was spurring me on so we took this hydrangea down... too much. And the result has been no blooms this year, since it's a bush that blooms on old wood. I'm hopeful for next year though. ouch. I hope that it's forgiven me by next Spring.

some beautiful ways to use dried hydrangeas...

    1. thanks Jeanie, I'm just a novice, I'd love to know more, but I just enjoy hydrangeas so much, and they're perfect with vintage decor.

  3. I bet with your green thumb your bush blooms next year. Not that I could give you any advice. :/ The misters mom had a very haphazard planting style at the farmhouse and I hate it. I've cut down so many ugly bushes, plants, trees all in terrible places. Not doing any landscaping until we move down there permanently though. Trimming and dealing with weeds is enough of a chore.

Each of your photos make me want to drag out the fall bins but finding the time is a problem. Hoping for next week. Thanks for all the inspo. Your color combos are stunning. Laughed out loud at your future Friday's post.
