Spring Vignette on the Cupboard Top

Once a holiday is over and all the obvious "holiday decor" has been packed away, it always seems bare and bland. I gathered up the bunnies and Easter related pieces and they are now safely tucked away till next year. A "Spring" refresh is always easier for me than other seasons, because vintage garden goodies can easily fill whatever holes might have been created when the Easter eggs and bunnies said "bye-bye".

The Cookbook Cupboard needed a change-up after Easter, so I naturally started thinking about vintage garden and cottage goods. I love these old "God Bless Our Home" lithographic prints; not sure how old this one is, but maybe from the 40's. I changed up the frame and chalk painted this old wooden one several years ago. I like to change up prints to correspond with the seasons, so when I rediscovered this one in our storage room I carted it upstairs knowing it would work for my Spring garden-y theme.

I usually keep our scrolly script monogram here in front of the large blackboard, but I love the black as a backdrop for prints too. Whatever lands there instantly pops.

The vintage green basket-weave lunch hamper has been a fun purchase since last Christmas. I've used it non-stop for decor and Spring floral vignettes. I love that it has real wooden handles, too. Here, it's a base for a couple of faux bois pitchers.

(Earlier in March)

A teensy vintage green painted clay pot holds some angel vine/wire vine.

The other side of the cupboard has an old painted box
topped by a mossy basket filled with faux paperwhites.

Old French seed packets and a mini clay pot are nestled inside the basket.

The Cookbook Cupboard is midway between the Hearth Room and the kitchen on a long wall. It's my fun spot for seasonal kitchen related decor, old cookbooks and cookie jars. I bought this old cabinet back about the time I started blogging as a display piece in one of my antique spaces. It was a cute antique chippy piece, but a real mess...  and too dirty looking to feel comfortable using. I opted for a couple of coats of white paint and some molding along the edges to give it a more finished look. You can see how it relates to the sideboard on that wall.

I think this little Japanese Majolica piece with birdies must be a sugar bowl,
but I've never seen any companion pieces.

Vintage garden tools and clay pots always work for vintage Spring decor vignettes. We planted the bulbs from earlier this spring and we actually used a few of my old garden tools. They still work even after 50+ years. (This is where I could throw in a joke about myself, but I'll pass on that!)

I keep my "Cottage" cookie jars here in the Cookbook Cupboard, but I'd like to introduce you to a cookie jar that had been my grandmother's, probably from the late 40's. I remember it sitting on her kitchen counter, usually with something yummy inside.

This fat little cow/bull? had originally been painted with bright colors. But by the time it ended up with me the paint was flaking off and very unattractive. I scrubbed it clean, with the only remaining paint being on the face. Google says it's "APCO" American Pottery Company from the 40's. It's a real cutie. Can you see the overalls and suspenders?

Guys, I DID make an attempt to straighten up the bottom shelf this time!
