Using Vintage Chairs for Decorating in the Garden Room

Hi Friends! Today I'm part of a great group of vintage loving gals who get together every other month and share some fun themed vintage and antique items that we use in our decor. The Lifestyle of Love Blog Hop, is hosted by our wonderful friend, Cindy of County Road 407, so if you're coming from Cindy's, thanks so much for following the Hop. These gatherings showcase our vintage pieces that we often consider "out of the box" ways to use. This month our theme is Vintage Chairs and Stools. It just so happens that of all the junk that I do have, I'm short on old chairs...

As a side note to vintage chairs, I've had a little French fantasy for many years of finding a gorgeous French Bergere upholstered chair, (for a song) but unfortunately I haven't run across any that could actually be affordably reupholstered or made usable. And.... I'm not an upholsterer by any stretch of my imagination. I love the "deconstructed" look, but I don't know if I could actually pull it off. Anyway, here are a few lovelies that make me swoon.

You can find these beauties and more on my Pinterest Page, "Chairs"

I did get as far as making a little "beginner" slipcover about 10 years ago when I fell deeply in love with the shabby French look (don't look too closely). I covered my 25 year old red floral Bergere chair that's now in our living room. Below, is the chair in our current home, and on the right in our previous home, 2 houses ago.

You can actually see two of my vintage embroidered stools in the photo on the right. And below are a few more of my embroidered "granny" stools that are actually "cat stools" around here.

Anyway, "back to reality" as I like to say...
Here are two cutie actual vintage chairs that I currently use
 in the Garden Room.

The metal based wicker wrapped chair is very heavy and very old, and had been my mom's for years. She gave it to me long ago and even though it's not really usable, it's design is so charming it finds it's way into seasonal outdoor photo shoots.

You can barely see it behind the large and lush Fall wreath from a post this last fall.
So even though it's not practical, it's really very pretty!

Here it is this week as part of my Valentine decor in the Garden Room.

As you can see it definitely needs a cushion to be usable at all!

And here is my little toddler chair that was part of my Toddler Table
and Chairs set that my parents bought for me when I was yes... A Toddler!
Hate to admit it, but it's very very vintage!

I shared my beautiful little hanging fabric hearts earlier this week, but I want to share the link again to a very talented lady with a lovely Etsy Shop, The Noisy Nuthatch.  Even though it's late for Valentine's Day, there are some beautiful creations you'll want to check out.

I also gave my old Valentine Candy Box a paint refresh this year. And if you have time later, you might want to come back and check out the inside of my Holiday Cupboard for Valentine's Day.

Thanks so much for coming by and I hope you'll click on the
Linky Party images below and continue all the fun with the Hop.
Kim from Shiplap and Shells has such a beautiful cottage,
you'll love seeing her wonderful vintage pieces.

You are invited to the Inlinkz link party!

  4. It's always so much fun to see how you incorporate vintage and antique finds into your home, Debra! I love all the pieces you have. That chippy perfection gets me every single time. I think your slipcover is gorgeous! It's on my bucket list to try next and if mine comes out half as pretty as your it's going to be a home run. Hope your Valentine's weekend is filled with all good things, CoCo

  5. I so much enjoyed seeing all of your vintage and antique chairs and footstools. I loved seeing your cats use the stools as a comfortable thrown. My favorite chair is the one from your childhood.

  6. One, I love that we both have a board on Pinterest about chairs! Mine is called chair love and I bet we have most of the exact same chairs pinned. ;) Two, you did a much better job making a slip cover for your chair. I won't even attempt it. I have a similar chair and think I'm going to try painting the fabric because the current color isn't my vibe anymore. Third, that toddler chair is adorable. Do you still have the others and the table to it? I'd love to see it. I've not seen a set before. Last but not least, your wicker chair is fantastic! I would never get rid of it. The shape (and that it's wicker) is so unique. I wonder if I can find an old wicker chair for such fun vignettes? Fingers crossed. Thank you so much for joining in. What a fun post.

  7. I love that deconstructed chair look, too. I've got a couple vintage chairs in storage; contemplating having a local upholsterer do that to one of them. I love your collection of needlepoint stools. So cute seeing your cats sitting on them:)

  8. Hi Debra! Love your sweet chairs and those needlework stools are just my favorite. I remember seeing those in homes when I was a little girl although we didn't have one! I loved seeing your kitty making herself very comfy on your stool!
