The Baker's Rack with a Woodsy Theme

It seems I have an abundance of shelving pieces. Yes, I've been blessed with the space at this house to have a few extra pieces to display all my vintage goodies. And then there's the fact that I love decorating with the seasons, so there are always fun ways to mix it up every month or so. Since the new year I've been leaning toward decorating with neutrals with a woodsy theme.

After Christmas, I've kept out most of my smaller faux evergreen trees for decor. January means "winter" here in the lower Midwest... snow, ice, and cold temperatures. Naked brown branches and evergreens dominate the bare look of the landscape causing the birds, deer, and critters in general to stand out.

I love to change out vintage prints to coordinate with the seasons, and one I've loved for years. There is some dispute over the artist, as this print had been copied by contemporary art plagiarists for the mass market at the time. The print originally was called "The Shepherd's Call" by Albert Schenck. It's always reminded me of the scripture,

He told them this parable. "Which of you men, if you had one hundred sheep, and lost one of them, wouldn't leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one that was lost, until he found it? When he has found it, he carries it on his shoulders, rejoicing. When he comes home, he calls together his friends, his family and his neighbors, saying to them, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!' I tell you that even so there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents, than over ninety-nine righteous people who need no repentance."

— Luke 15:3–7, World English Bible

On a recent trip to the vintage market,
I found this wonderful little biscuit/cookie Currier and Ives tin.

Along with a vintage Twinings Earl Grey Tea tin,
this would be the perfect cold weather tea break.

And since it's still "technically" the new year during the month of January,
I have an antique New Year's card from 1912 on display.
It's a "Good Luck" theme of a horseshoe with a winter countryside theme.

My old stenciled "seed box" is a fixture here on the Baker's Rack;
It's usually filled with old garden tools and seasonal greenery.

Another vintage tea tin from Lipton.

Deer, sheep, and birds are always welcome here on the shelves.

Today it's a bit warmer out, so it feels like a heat wave.
The birds are busy at the feeders and the squirrels
are taking advantage of a lovely afternoon of sunshine.
I hope you're having a good weekend and staying well.

We hope you'll come by on Monday evenings for the party.

    1. Hi Bonnie, I was reading where New Year's cards were very trendy, and most people sent them out for the holidays. They didn't have what we call greeting cards now, so postcards were the rage. Thanks for coming by.

  2. Perfect seasonal decor for right now, Debra. I always love the way you use what is typically seen outside by season. The Shepard's Call is a great old print. I purged one of those to Jeanie (Marmalade Gypsy) when I got rid of some inventory back in 2018. She remembers it being in her grandparents' home. Love when we make connections with our vintage items!

  3. I like your woodsy theme. Very cute. I think it is so fun you can decorate that baskers rack for the different times of the year. Stay warm and have a great new week. xoxo Kris

  4. Hi Debra! I love your bakers rack and how you decorate it! I love that painting. My aunt had that same painting on her wall and I used to just get lost in it looking at it as a child. Hope your week is off to a good start.
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)
