It's a Merry Little Christmas in the Kitchen

Hello Everyone, it's time for my annual Kitchen post. I know... It's terrible that I don't get around to sharing my kitchen more often. I don't decorate much here in the kitchen, (because the rest of the house is always done up) and it seems that it's always in use. But Hey, it's Christmastime and there are a few fun Christmas goodies  hanging around this time of year.

One of my favorite things in here is having this big island with a butcher block countertop. It seems like it's always in use, especially since my hubby has retired... and it's a great place for cooking, projects, and maybe a computer. It really is the hub of the kitchen.

As many of you know, the kitchen had been renovated a few years before we bought this house. Good thing, because I just wasn't up for a complete kitchen remodel. I was pretty happy with the space, although I would have chosen a lighter countertop. I do love that the island has seating space and we use it every day for breakfast and lunch.

One of my favorite ways to bring a little seasonal Holiday fun into any space is with a tote and to load it up with vintage goodies. And this kitchen tote is filled with my collection of red/white antique kitchen tools and a vintage Currier and Ives tray. (hard to see behind the kitchen gadgets and berry wreath)

Some of my old and new black metal and tole trays line the counter tops. Then above the counter on this side is this fun little cabinet "niche" where I do manage to get in some fun seasonal decor.

A stack of new and vintage cookie tins, a new plaid Thermos, and my plaid Christmas houses are here on display this year.

A PET Milk Brand vintage tin for recipe cards is here on an antique book stack. The tin's red and green color combo is perfect for Christmas.

The bigger plaid house my sister bought for me several years ago. (She knows how much I love plaid for Christmas!) And I love my little Tartan Plaid house ornaments, but as everything else, they were a little pricier this year!

I made the log cabin quilt topper back in the 80's. Actually I just pieced it and my sweet MIL quilted it. She had perfect little stitches and mine were not quite as uniform, or perfect. (she rescued this project)

When we bought this house I was really intimidated with the gas stove, since I hadn't used one in 40 years. But now I'm used to it and wouldn't trade it for anything.

I love a tea towel; old or new...! My mom machine monogramed these adorable plaid towels for me a few years ago.

Just recently while going through some old boxes,  I found a whole bag of cookie cutters I had when the girls were little. We used to make sugar cookies for every occasion and holiday. Triple batches with frosting. We would overdose on them, but so yummy. The ones below are older ones from the 40's and 50's. Even a few biscuit cutters too.

The kitchen is next to the hearth room at the other end. The previous owners took out a wall before they started the reno to have one large long room.

Here's the Christmas kitchen post from last year. I need to make Gluten Free sugar cookies soon, but it tends to be an all day immersive (eating) experience.

  5. I love your kitchen and hearth rooms, Debra. The tartan plaids make me happy. I have a few vignettes in my kitchen too. We are back with gas again in our new home, and it's my preferred way of cooking, although I spent all of Covid cooking with electric, so I can get used to both. Happy new week to you.

  7. What a fun way to display vintage cookware for the holidays! My aunt has a bunch of it. I will share this idea with her. Change out a few pieces seasonally, and you have a decor piece you can feature all year long.
