Garden Bouquets and Transferware

I've been inspired by all the beautiful garden bouquets out here in Blogville. I wasn't able to get a lot of flower containers planted this year, but I do have several pots filled with the small mixed zinnias and trailing variegated petunias. I also have a large hydrangea out front that has given me quite a few pretty ever-changing blooms.

I tried several different pitchers to display the flowers,
but finally came up with this white/cottage-y grouping.
The larger pitcher is very heavy pottery and in the fois-bois French style.
(Literally meaning "false wood")
Then a small Staffordshire creamer and a small English cottage creamer.

Another item that I've been wanting to share is a "riser" that I've had for several years, but was in real need of a paint makeover. Someone had spray painted it aqua a while back, then later tried to paint it white. I'm sorry, it was really an ugly little piece, but I knew a good paint refresh would make it work. White paint is a miracle worker!

I've had this sweet Fiatelle vintage tablecloth
for quite awhile though I don't think I've shared it.
Since it's a brown "grape" print I thought
it would compliment the transferware patterns.

Last week or so when I changed up the Holiday Cupboard for Mid-Summer, I looked through my brown transferware dinner plates to find a few to use with the crockery and Majolica. I had two of these Myotts multicolored floral ones and thought how they are a little easier to incorporate in to a vignette since they have several colors in the glaze: red, yellow, green, and small strokes of blue. I always think of the brown for fall and then again in late winter, but this pattern seemed more summery and versatile.

Most of my transferware collection is a mish-mash of patterns.
I have a few pieces that are part of a set,
but most are found one piece
at a time at fleas or vintage markets.

Since I haven't been out to scour the vintage fleas and markets I decided
to give Etsy and Ebay a try. Sure enough I found these on Ebay
for a good price and bought 6 of them to make a complete set of 8.

You can see most of the rest of my brown transferware
back there behind the table in the china cupboard.

An ironstone tureen and a smaller English covered vegetable
are here on more stacked transferware.

This mid-summer tabletop display
is out here in the Garden Room where the light is always good,
and a spot that's so easy to change up.

  1. I always love your posts and so enjoy your decorating style. The sunroom was always a favorite of mine to see your quilt changes. Love the riser and pitcher; it all looks so charming. Thank heavens for blogs and YouTube during this time to help us forget for a little while the mess we are in. Thank you for sharing your life with us.

    1. thankyou Carole, I think we are all needing a diversion, a place where we can go to get away from the stress and mess that we are all in. Blogging is an escape and outlet that helps me get a better perspective on life right now.

  2. For all those dish-holics out there---you are our goddess...LOL. What a great post, I know I have to FIND my extra dishes downstairs---which is still scrambled for the great plumbing upgrade we are doing ...bit by bit. Once that is done, I can re-organize and find my extra transferware stashed away for different seasons! Hugs, love ALL your dishware! Sandi

    1. Hi Sandi, dear friend! Oh gosh, plumbing projects! I can't let myself buy much more, but I somehow justified my purchase of these plates. I knew I would use them to decorate with, even though I might not use them for dinner. But who knows. Re-organize is a concept I aspire to, haha!

  3. I envy your hydrangeas and your garden room! I need a space like that in my house. That is a sweet Myott pattern. I am intrigued by that top transferware platter too. I wonder why I have such an emotional attraction to brown transferware!? I enjoy seeing all your creative arrangements. Hope you're well!

  4. I have an affinity for blue and white transferware; my good dishes are Royal Mail, Staffordshire. I am beginning to live different colors, now, too although I haven't collected any--will buy it to turn around in my booth. I love the pops of color in your cupboard and on your table; I'm afraid I will ALWAYS be a color person, not a neutrals!

  7. Adorable. I've been doing a lot of eBay shopping since shops weren't open. They are open now but it's still a great source. I love the plates. Your flowers are beautiful.

  8. All your dishware is gorgeous but I really do love the transferware. I've been trying to pick up individual pieces at thrift stores for the past few years. So far I have a small collection. Your flowers look lovely in the vignette you created. Love that cottage planter! Thanks for sharing at Vintage Charm. xo Kathleen

  10. What a pretty display, Debra!! The flowers look stunning inside of those vintage vessels. I've been hunting for those exact same plates that you have stacked under the tureen...I LOVE the pattern on those! Thanks for sharing this one...it gives me some inspiration on what to do around my house for the rest of the summer!
