Is it Easter or Resurrection Sunday?

I'm going to be honest with you, last night I sat down to edit a few pics I had taken of my entry console that I had decorated for Easter, but I just couldn't. I still haven't found all my boxes of Holiday decor, one of those being some Easter things that I've used in the past. So, I just put out a few cute vintage Easter cards with baby chicks on them, a vintage bunny photo print, and called it "done". Happy Easter...

But that was my problem...

Baby chicks and bunnies, dyeing eggs, baskets filled to the brim with chocolate delights, those are all perfectly wonderful "Easter" fun, but that's not what I will be celebrating this Sunday. Don't get me wrong. I love all the fun of those things; I just did a post yesterday on Easter baskets and how my girls still love them. I have lot's of bunnies, decorated eggs, baskets and the whimsical goodies of celebrating Spring, but those things are not what I'm celebrating this Sunday...

I'm celebrating, the Resurrection of my precious Lord and Savior,
 Jesus Christ.

I don't celebrate Jesus on the cross, but I celebrate because of that sacrifice He made for each one of us, and I celebrate that He is no longer on that cross. He's no longer in a tomb... but He is Risen!

So while we all love to see the fun and enjoyment of our children looking for Easter Eggs, and dressed in their new Spring clothes, most of us who celebrate Easter, know in our heart that we are actually celebrating the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord.

That He came to Earth as a man, to buy back our eternal lives and destiny;
and to pay the price for the sin of each man's heart and soul.

The "Easter" holiday originates from pagan times, customs and cultures. Over the years and from the early Church who wanted to "marry" the two existing holidays and customs for their converts, somehow we have let the two join and become one. Celebrating "Easter" brings a message of rebirth, renewal, and new beginnings, which is what we Christians know Jesus made available to us on the Cross. I hope you know that in a Christian's mind and heart we celebrate that rebirth that Jesus Christ brings for each of us.

I'm all for the fun and enjoyment of Easter, but as Christian's let's also be ready to celebrate this Sunday as "Resurrection Sunday"...and not be afraid to share that amazing truth. If you don't know Jesus as your Savior, all it takes for you to know Him, is to ask. He will gladly share Himself with you.

Have a Happy and Blessed Resurrection Day!

  1. And to you too beautiful Debra... like you, I still love the bunnies and eggs and such, but celebrate the true meaning as well... it is a time for quiet reflection for me as well, since so many of my loved ones are with Him now... your post has given me a peaceful calm that I needed today... I spent much of the past week in the hosp for tests and those are the times you know what is truly important in life... love to you, and Happy Easter and Resurrection Sunday, xoxo... Julie Marie

  4. Beautiful post Debra! How precious His sacrifice was for us. Tomorrow John will be gone five months but I rejoice in the fact that he is celebrating Easter with his Lord this year.

    Happy Easter.

  6. What a wonderfully thoughtful post, Debra. Believe it or not, I never even put up all the bunny and egg stuff this year. Instead, I have two simple things front and center on my table - a lion and a lamb, both old ironstone molds, to remind me of Him - as our sacrifice and our King. I was very excited when I found the lion last week while antiquing, and I knew what I'd do with it (I already had the lamb). Have a wonderful day tomorrow.

  18. Beautiful post Debra. I fully agree with you.
    I pulled out my tubs of Easter decorations, but did not get around to doing the normal Easter-style decorating this year ... maybe I was trying to decorate with the wrong things. I felt more like decorating for Spring than Easter.
    Have a wonderful, blessed Easter day.
