Up until just a couple of years ago, a lot of my furniture was painted black.
My inspiration piece for this was this little Eastlake dresser,
that I've had in my Entry since we moved here.
A year ago I started the transformation to "white".
A need to lighten and brighten my surroundings really put me in high gear.
I've put off painting this little dresser until a few weeks ago,
because, even though I still love the black,
it didn't match anything else in the entry area.
So I used my favorite Behr primer plus paint,
then added some mocha glaze,
a couple of coats of liquid poly,
and a little light distressing.
I went with painted hardware, to tone down the brassy gold.
(certainly not the originals)
...much happier!
And I really don't know how it came out with these curvy little Queen Anne-ish legs.
Detailed bullseye Eastlake motif.
(the before)
As you can see it's finish was a little dated with sponged gold highlights.
(sorry, old camera from early blogging days)
It's such a pretty little piece, that is a real storage answer;
holding gloves and scarves for winter.
so...one more down...a few to go.
I'm linking with these great parties:
Hope you can join in for Vintage Inspiration Friday.
I'll let you know what I was up to last weekend.
love ya,
Debra
You did an awesome job!!!

Absolutely STUNNING transformation!!!
ReplyDeleteLooks great Debra! I have a freebie dresser that I am planning on painting black to put in my sewing area to hold fabric. Do you have a suggestion for the kind of black paint I should use. I have never ever painted anything black. But I am going to take the plunge.
ReplyDeleteWow! I LOVE the dresser white! It looks so fresh. Who would have thought that painted hardware could look so good?
ReplyDeleteWell now girl girl...YOU KNOW I'M TOTALLY LOVIN' IT! WOWZERS!
ReplyDeleteYOU ROCK!

It's very pretty. I always enjoy seeing pics of your gorgeous home.
ReplyDeleteDebra, it is wonderful and what a great job of aging it. I love the way the pulls look old. The glazing sure makes a difference.
ReplyDeleteAnd I really like your whole entry display. I see we both like the old scripture prints, aren't they beautiful?
Sweet Blessings, Abbey
I LOVE the transformation. It seems to fit the personality of the piece much better than the black. I have a large black mirrored dresser that I would love to tackle, but it's just so big and beautiful, I'm afraid to screw it up. Ah, one of these days, I might get brave enough.
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty transformation! I am lovin your huge basket sitting on top too! I have a few of these basket and they are just so fun to use.

The new look is much better! Love the white.
ReplyDeleteOOh that's so pretty! I have one I need to redo as well just need to find the time to do it! ;)
ReplyDeleteI love it...the white freshness...and it has taught me you can paint the hardware. ♥O
ReplyDeleteIt turned out beautifully! I love it white, but ofcourse I would! It looks beautiful in the entry way! xoxo
ReplyDeleteDebra, I love what you did with it, it is more "lightened up" much more cheery. Although, I will say, the "before" pic is not bad at all. Perhaps, it's due to your many vignette talents. xxx tami
ReplyDeleteI LOVE IT Debra!! You did an amazing job! You can come and paint for me anytime. lol. I did some painting today as well. Most things I love painted white, but I am having regrets painting a piece of an old shutter...well kinda. :)

Visiting from FJI! Oh wow...what a dramatic before and after!! The white is so fresh and beautiful. I'm always amazed at what a coat of white paint will do to an older piece of furniture. This is really gorgeous.
