Summery Looks in the Garden Room

The end of July has me thinking about mid-Summer but with a decided shift toward winding down and bringing out a bit darker, deeper, harvest colors. Golds and darker greens and a few browns start showing up with some sunflower vibes. Out in the Garden Room I've changed up the wicker seating area to include some golds, black and white Buffalo Check, and of course my always current ticking stripes.

A Trip to The Ozark Mill and Other Weekend Thoughts

I haven't shared a post on "real life" lately. Actually, things are usually pretty quiet and uneventful around here, especially this last 2 years. I don't get out near as much because of the Covid situation, and the fact that I had back surgery last summer. I'll talk more about that in a bit. But I wanted to share a fun outing my husband and I had a few weeks ago...

Little Black Cat

Happy Last Weekend of October, Friends! I've been meaning to do this for awhile and I thought that this would be the perfect opportunity to introduce you to our newest member of the family. We've had her for a few months, but she had to have surgery (for a tumor on her leg) and then she was a little embarrassed about her looks because of it. So I'm just now getting around to introductions.

Nesting Birds and Slinky Cats

Hope you all had a wonderful Easter Weekend. Our kiddos were out of town, so we had a really quiet, low-key weekend. We did go out Saturday night to our fave Italian spot, but that was about the size of it. About the most exciting thing going on around here at the moment is out on the back upper deck. There are a couple of noisy house wren's and they've been busy putting together an intricate little nest inside one of my derelict birdhouses. A while back I was trying to shift some vintage garden things around and a couple of these handmade birdhouses wound up right outside the kitchen window on one of my vintage wrought iron Etergeres. (don't ask me why it's now a shelf for birdhouses and not in the house)

Blogging Therapy

Hi Friends...

I've been away from blogging for a few days, and the truth is I've needed a little break to try to get back up to speed; not just in blogging but life in general. I know we all feel this way from time to time. Sometimes we push through to try to keep our routine going, but this time I've not been able to do that, better to be honest I think. That's just my own opinion.

Out of my Comfort(er) Zone

So far in the 2& 1/2 years of living here, I've managed to get away with not showing you our Master Bedroom. There are a few reasons why I've not shared it; here are my excuses...

Garden Flower Pot Wreath for Spring

I made this fun Springtime wreath a few years ago after I'd found these old French seed packet labels on Etsy. I added them to some tags and then tied whitewashed flowerpots on the grapevine wreath. Last year I didn't get to use it because it was hidden among a ton of other tubs and boxes in the garage, but this year it's hanging on the mirror on the old door in the Kitchen Sitting Area.

An Old Quilt and New Pillows in the Sitting Area

Now that it's "Mid October" it's
time to bring more of the rich Fall colors
 into the Kitchen Sitting Area.

Change-up in the Kitchen Sitting Area

Yikes, it's June and it's that time once again...

The week before Memorial Day I was ready for a change in the sitting area of the kitchen. I thought about bringing out my Patriotic things and be ready for July 4th, but I just wasn't ready. It's been a long rainy Spring, and I was craving something that just looked like "Summer".

A Garden Girl, some Hydrangeas, and thinking out loud...

This is one of those posts that is a little of this and a little of that...
just some small things to share with you.

Blogging has changed so much from when I first started almost 6 years ago.(You hear that every day, but it's really true) It used to be that you could confidently share a pretty photo or vignette, how you made a small change on your kitchen counter, or a new "whatever", without feeling like you were supposed to be entertaining everyone. We were excited to show our latest flea market and garage sale finds without feeling "less than". I still love those kind of posts, because honestly, it's those kind of "everyday life" posts that let us in on the real person that's blogging. It really intimidates me that blog posts now are expected to be some kind of major "production", elaborate DIY, or fabulous room reveal. And that if they aren't, then what you may post might be considered as irrelevant, blah, or boring.

(found my sweet little fountain last week)

Don't get me wrong...
I totally love a great DIY, Room Reveal etc.
but I have to tell you...
my life is just not that darn exciting,
 or productive, for that matter.
...and I really don't need or want it to be.

So today,
I just want to show you where I put my little French Girl fountain,
and that I bought some Hydrangeas...
one pink, and one blue.
Now I just need to pick the right place to have hubby plant them.

and that for right now they are in my black goat cart
that I finally found,
and sitting on the front porch.

'Endless Summer"...
they bloom all summer long
and then have the most amazing colors come Fall.

I can't wait to get them planted.
Last year I really missed having Hydrangeas
and Peonies, and Roses, and Black-Eyed Susans...

 Hydrangeas are my go-to flower.
They're beautiful in any season.

and that my "Little Miss Muffet" is sitting on her tuffet...

taking a bath.

sorry for the cord in the pic.
I'm keeping it real today.

Try as I might, I just can't get "into" Facebook or Instagram.
I know Instagram has real possibilities,
and it seems like so many bloggers are heading that direction
 because there's less "pressure".
Even there, many blogger photos look "professional",
and that my little phone pics look silly in comparison.

Oh well,

Let's not miss out on sharing the sweet small things
of everyday life on our blogs.
Let's not let blogging turn into a "Professional" sport.
Here's to feeling that as people and as bloggers,
 we are "relevant"
...no matter what.

Before they're gone...

We've had a few storms and windy days lately, so I thought I'd better get some photos of my blooming branches before all the blooms were blown away. I had planned on doing this early yesterday before a heavy down pour that I knew was headed our way...but something else came up.

A new teapot and a bit of Toile

I have to admit, I have a few small rituals that I really enjoy. Having a few cups of hot tea in the afternoon is one of them. This last week has seen really low temps, so that just adds to the comfort level that having something "hot" to sip on can bring. I'm not a cup and saucer and "pinky in the air" type; I love a generous and heavy mug; something to wrap my hands around.

Toile pillows for the sitting area...

If you're like me this first week of January, you're wandering around the house looking for something to "change up". I loved my Red Tartan Plaids in the sitting area for Christmas, and I wasn't even tired of looking at them, but at the same time I needed to clear out the Christmas decor and make January "fresh".

A Little Christmas in the Kitchen

Hey Everyone! I hadn't planned on being away from the blog all this week. After all, it's Christmastime and there's so much fun decorating inspiration going on. I was on a roll last weekend, then the week got away from me, and now I'm running behind. But I wanted to share a few pics from what's going on in the kitchen.

It's always fun to decorate the Baker's Rack...

...and I have a few of my vintage Shiney Brite trees out.

Santa's taking a breather on a cupcake pedestal...

and you can see I have lot's of help from the fur girls.

Hmmmm...
how to reach those shiny toys hanging from Mom's chandy?

I have a lot more to share, just need to finish things up, and get ready as I'll be joining Sherry from No Minimalist Here next week for the Christmas Open House Blog Hop.

Hope you'll join us starting Wednesday December 10-12.
see you then!

Studio Vignettes

When we moved over here to the smaller lease house I was really selective about what came with us. All my studio/office furniture came with me except for my big reading chair and ottoman, and my work desk. This "bedroom", is quite a bit smaller, and only necessary items made the cut. But I did need some fun decor to make it feel like home.

I've had several neutral suitcases strewn about the other house, so most of them landed in here. This is just one stack that's sitting on the old punched tin cupboard. My moss covered "O" that used to be on the Entry Hall mirror didn't work here at the new place so it's propped here against these old cases.

The bottom two cases are just a heavy cardboard with a celluloid handle, but their color is wonderful. I doubt that this kind of luggage lasted long back then. The gorilla from the old American Tourister luggage commercial would have destroyed it in one sitting. You have to be over 50 to remember this one...te he.

I still love this commercial after all these years, just brilliant.

Instead of the work table, my little Italianate desk from the Living Room is here. Just big enough for my birdcage, a plant and a few birdie books. We don't see many birdies, but I do hear a mourning dove "couple" each morning early. This room faces north so it has wonderful morning light.

So far, the kitty girls haven't realized there are delicious plants right here,
I imagine it's just a matter of time.

I just recently found a new pair of wonderful chunky wooden lamps,
I'll share those soon.

This is the top of the tv armoire. More edible cat snacks up here, but it's kinda high, so they're too lazy to try to find a way up here.

I stashed my camera lens and books in the make-up case. I love these old "train cases", and have collected a few, this one has it's owner's initials in gold, "V.M.B."

Do you make up names for mysterious monogrammed items?
Victoria Mae Billingsly...
Veronica Marie Barnes...
Violet Mabel Barker...
Velma Martha Burgess...

I'll show you the rest of the room when it's presentable. Right now since I'm short on space, my ironing board is in here. Nothing like an ironing board to ruin a wonderful vintage sanctuary.

I hate to iron...about as much as I hate to dust.

It's warm today, but back in the '40's tomorrow,
brrr...

sincerely,
Virginia Martinia Benedict
