Cottage Review: Woodsy Kitchen China Cabinet

I'm getting ready to tweak my "Early Fall" Holiday Cupboard, to an October version that has more current seasonal color and vibe to it. When we were living at our last home I didn't have a spot for the Holiday Cupboard, so I focused with seasonal dishes on my Kitchen China Cupboard. I used more dishes than odds and ends, but it was still fun to "decorate" with natural and seasonal bits of bittersweet and leaves.

Sweet September in the Cupboard

When the calendar page turns to September something happens in my head and heart. I love Fall and seeing September roll around lets me know that the colorful foliage, cooler days, and cozy nights will soon be here.

Vintage Cottage Weekend and the January Cupboard

Hello friends and Happy Weekend! For a few weeks in January we have a small bit of time that's totally dedicated to warm, cozy, and comfy. After Christmas and before Valentines Day; it's a time to relax in front ot the fire, read a good book, watch a movie, and curl up in a soft warm blanket... without a ton of shopping, big meals to cook or a deadline looming on the calender.

Weekend Inspiration: Nature Inspired Tartan and Transferware Tablescapes

Hi Friends, I know many of us are getting ready for Thanksgiving this weekend and that some of us are still in a bit of Thanksgiving mode at least till Thursday evening when we put the last dish away. These pics are from years ago in 2013 when I shared this for a Thanksgiving Tablescape. This theme is a basic idea that can be used for any season or holiday.

Savoring September in the Holiday Cupboard

The highlight of any season is putting together the ever-changing Holiday Cupboard. And since Fall is my favorite time of the year, it takes on a new and different theme each year. I put this look together for September a few weeks ago. At that time I wanted to keep the pumpkins at a minimum and highlight the wild little black-eyed-susans and bits of bittersweet and mini gourds.

September Mantel with Ironstone and Transferware

Does decorating for Fall sound better once it becomes September? I think there is a subtle shift in my brain's ability to bring out some pumpkins and leaves once we're officially past Labor Day. I've had my Fall tubs out for several weeks, but I just couldn't get excited until this last week. Plus the weather has cooled down a bit and the light seems to be making those longer shadows that don't happen till Autumn is on our doorstep.

A Winter's Walk in the Holiday Cupboard

Hello friends, since Valentine's Day will be here in a few weeks, I knew I needed to share my January edition of the Holiday Cupboard. January has been cold and often dreary here, but I'm trying to be present and look for the good to enjoy each season... including winter. One of the fun ways I celebrate each month and season is to refresh my old pie safe, aka "The Holiday Cupboard".

Romancing the October Holiday Cupboard

Last year for the "first" October Holiday Cupboard, it was natural for me to come up with a whimsical theme for late October. But this year, as I do in any seasonal display, I like to stretch a little bit and use different vintage items to create something seasonal and holiday compatible. So instead of just using vintage pumpkins and Fall critters (which I love), this time I brought out some "romantic" vintage items to give it an altogether new look.

September Hydrangeas in the Holiday Cupboard

I'm going to openly admit that I have a small obsession with updating and restyling my Holiday Cupboard that's out in the Garden Room. It has become a reflection of what's happening with the seasons and the holiday at hand. After the "late summer" version with the Majolica, I wanted to head into September, but wasn't ready for a bunch of orange and pumpkins. That will be here in the next week or so. For now I wanted to play off the gorgeous purples, mauves, greens and neutrals that I've been loving with my dried hydrangeas.

Flea Market Finds in the Dining Room

I've not been out to the fleas or antique malls for quite a while. Between the back problems and Covid and my autoimmune issues, I've had to put a lot of shopping on hold. I've really missed having the chance to get out and enjoy the fun of vintage and antique shopping. Let's just say it's always been a highlight of my week/month/year to get out and browse around. The added perk is that I always came home with not only fun finds, but also filled up with new creative ideas.

Cows in the January Cupboard

How do you feel about January?
Are you excited about a clean slate and look forward
to putting together some fun fresh decor
or does it take a while to get out of the post Holiday season blahs?
I guess I'm somewhere in the middle.
I love the  excitement and cozy Christmas decor with lots of color and twinkle lights,
but I'm usually ready to put it all away and look forward to
a more pared down and neutral look.

It's Thanksgiving in the Holiday Cupboard

Hello Everyone, One week till Thanksgiving!
Do you have it all planned out?
I guess it will just be the two of us for the holiday.
That's what is best for us this year,
but I'm sure missing my family and kiddos.

Woodsy China Cupboard for Fall

Hi Friends...

September in the Holiday Cupboard

Hi Friends, we're really sliding toward Fall since it's the middle of September now. The days are cooling off here and it's getting dark much earlier... time to restyle the Holiday Cupboard for Early Fall. Just give me any excuse to restyle the HC and I'll jump on it.

Garden Bouquets and Transferware

I've been inspired by all the beautiful garden bouquets out here in Blogville. I wasn't able to get a lot of flower containers planted this year, but I do have several pots filled with the small mixed zinnias and trailing variegated petunias. I also have a large hydrangea out front that has given me quite a few pretty ever-changing blooms.

January Cupboard in Candlelight

For me, January is a month for settling in for Winter. Here in the lower Midwest we do have a few beautiful warmer days during Winter, but for the most part the days are gray and cold and spitting something wet. In January I'm all about staying warm and cozy indoors. To combat the short dreary days I like to have some spaces in the house that evoke a feeling of warmth and comfort.

Turkey Talk in the Cupboard

When I organized my old cupboard and re-dubbed it my "Holiday Cupboard" in the Garden Room, I knew that Thanksgiving would be a fun display. Vintage turkeys and Brown Transferware plates and platters are really shown off with the white interior and ironstone. My Fall display was the basis and I didn't have to do much to make it be"Thanksgiving".

Vintage Market Finds and the Copper Stash

Hi Friends, I hope you had a great Memorial Day weekend. It was a "working" weekend for us, as we concentrated on getting the basement cleaned up and put together. We got tons of boxes emptied, the family room usable, and my husband's office pretty much up and running. The basement has been a convenient catch all since we still had both storage areas to finish organizing and lots of books and decor to decide on. So now it's a great place to go and relax, without feeling like you're in a storage unit. It's really good to finally have this done. Pics coming soon.
