Change-up in the Kitchen Sitting Area

Yikes, it's June and it's that time once again...

The week before Memorial Day I was ready for a change in the sitting area of the kitchen. I thought about bringing out my Patriotic things and be ready for July 4th, but I just wasn't ready. It's been a long rainy Spring, and I was craving something that just looked like "Summer".

I decided I'd try to find a summery wreath in my stash. Some of my wreaths haven't been located yet, but I had seen this one floating around. It's full of summer color and all "twiggy" and wild. I know you all probably cannot understand how we haven't gotten all our boxes unpacked by now, but take it from me, there was a lot of "decor stuff" to wade through. I can't deal with these boxes on my own. Hubbs has to be there to lift them down and get them open for me to look through. He doesn't consider this a fun activity, so I have to wait to get it done when I can get him to do it. This involves me being oh so sweet and occasional bribery.

After deciding on the wreath for the change up on the old door,
I just reversed my brown floral coverlet for this lighter side,
that is green with stripes and a teensy floral pattern.

and added the embroidered burlap pillows from outside.

I can't do alot of furniture change-up,
but keeping this space fresh and seasonal
helps sooth my decor ocd.

The wreath alone up there on the old door,
looked weird to me... like it was floating,
so I went back through some of my outdoor metal things
to see if I couldn't make it look a little more grounded.

plus it was sitting up there too high...

This rusty iron wall basket worked,
now I just have to make sure it doesn't fall off the door
 onto a sleeping clueless cat.
Emphasis on "clueless".

I hadn't changed the little metal milk carrier since Easter,
so I found some old Johnson Brothers
and misc. pastel floral and fruit plates.
Then a couple of vintage linen tea towels for some padding.

I need to enjoy this because the red/white/and blue
will come out toward the latter part of the month.

That's the latest installment of
"As the Sitting Room Changes"
sort of like
"As the World Turns"
except with pillows, quilts, and wall decor
instead of scandal, romance, and intrigue.

  1. This room is so darn pretty Debra and you're the queen of great looking vignettes.
The one thing I miss about my old dining room was the big window. So I'm really loving all your natural light in here...

  17. I am right there with you on the box issue. I have more to pull from storage, and like you I have to do it when hubby can lift boxes. Not fun. Not fun. Your table and settee look fun though! Sheila

  20. Hi Debra,
I love your little sitting area! You're so ambitious to change it out with the seasons. I have a loveseat/sitting area in my kitchen as well and really enjoy it. But since we've recently downsized, I had to give up some of my "bins & bins of accessories for every season". Reading your post makes me miss them even more. I guess I'll just have to live my seasonal decorating life vicariously through your blog! p.s. Love that quilt . . . side 1 and side 2!
