Baskets for Spring Door Decor

I've slowly been putting "Winter" away, and bringing "Spring" into the house this last week. After Christmas I keep some of my winter faux greenery out as a backdrop and base for winter flower arrangements, and in baskets. Since snow covered trees and evergreens have been about the only landscape in sight, I've enjoyed my transition time from Christmas to Spring. But now that the sun is shining and the thermometer is going to be in the 50's and 60's we have a good chance that the worst of winter is behind us.

I'd been waiting for a little warmer day, to rework my front door flower basket. I enjoy changing it out for each season/and or Holiday to keep it current. After Christmas I had some faux evergreens, Holly, and a few Hydrangeas mixed in with my "Burberry look" wired ribbon. I've opted for a basket as door decor here at the new house. We have a leaded glass door and I prefer to have a little "visual deterrent" for door bell ringers. We're not too far from the street so I don't want to be on display in the evening.

Hubbs informed me that I still have a bunch of tubs and boxes with Holiday decor and faux flowers at the storage units. For some reason they are last on his list of must haves to bring over. If I'm not there directing traffic, they don't get any priority. fine. I'll just go buy some fresh new stems and foliage.

Actually, everything in this basket has been used many times before, except for the burlap checked ribbon that I found a few weeks ago. I love using Hydrangeas no matter what the season. They're pretty versatile, and look appropriate for year round floral displays. I use the greens and whites for Spring, and then as the year progresses I use the darker and more muted shades.

Here it is on the gray front door.
It's a pretty full basket,
now if I can just keep the birds from nesting here it will be good.

  5. I love it, Debra! You are so lucky to be able to use a nice big basket like that. We have a storm door so I am limited to pieces that aren't too deep. I did find one at a yard sale one year and I should probably just rework the florals like you do. It is smaller than yours (but similar to some of those you shared) and I do love it as something different from wreath.

  7. I love your basket. I only have a tiny space for a wreath or basket. It is filled with spring like flowers. It looked a little funny in the snow the other day. I love, love your green checked ribbon. What a great find.

  11. Hi Debra...love these gorgeous arrangements. You inspire me to gather bits and pieces to put together something for our new front door. The movers are moving us to storage today. A week from tomorrow we close on both homes and two weeks from today, we move to our new home. I think it needs a bit of Springtime on the front door. Don't you?:-)

  20. OH boy did I enjoy seeing all those flowers, real or faux. The flowers in your door basket look real. love silk or fabric flowers now. I got rid of so many of my faux flowers few years ago since everybody was saying they weren't good to have in house, dust collectors. Doggone it now I sure wish I had more of them left. Would love to find a basket like yours. I have bought a few at $tree and Hobby Lobby on sale. Make little wreaths I can take flowers off at the holiday or season. Get lots of mileage out of wreaths that way.
I was about to put Easter stuff out week or so ago and decided it was bit early for it. Been getting some more cute little Easter critters at thrift stores, forget what I have til I get it out. Ah well enjoy it all. Been working on a Spring banner also. Used orange and white burlap and painted on big dots on the white. then cut some strips to go between. Try to use what I have not buy anymore. Enjoy your gorgeous door basket. I'd want to cover door also, would make me nervous having that glass uncovered. Happy week

  25. This basket just screams Springtime. Love how it looks hung on the door. I also love hydrangeas, they remind me of my Grandparents who grew them in their garden.
