More birdies and presents to myself...

You all know how much I love me some birdies, and you've heard me sing the praises of the UK Edition of Country Living. Put them both together in this month's February Issue, and you have me looking forward to Spring more than ever.

Once you've experienced one of these gorgeous monthly magazine publications you'll be hooked. The UK Edition is true to it's name. It's all about life in rural Britain; farms, businesses, crafts, entrepreneurs, cooking, traditions, and lifestyle.

This month they featured bird and nest illustrations
from the Natural History Museum, London.

The illustrations in the layout look like watercolor exhibits on faded papers,
with dimensional identification tags. a very vintage look.

This month's issue is still available at bookstores.

And I have to share this wonderful breadboard that arrived in the mail this week. Being sick and delirious ;) I'd forgotten that I'd ordered it, and when my husband brought the monster box to me I was clueless. (That happens to me every once in awhile and it has nothing to do with a fever)

It's a big boy breadboard, that I ordered from "Decor Steals" as my Valentine present to myself. When I ordered it I didn't have any idea where I'd put it, but I wasn't going to let it pass by. It's not as heavy or well made as the real thing, but it has the look of an old one, and the price was right.

And this interesting reproduction metal sign came from "Antique Farmhouse" before Christmas. The distressed creams and browns are really pretty....and it says "Paris"... what's not to love?

I think I like them together...

Hope you're having a wonderful weekend. I've been working on more Springification around here. The sunporch was Saturday's project...I'm just getting started. And please don't remind me that another snowstorm is scheduled for Tuesday!
I'm joining in at these parties:

Wow Us Wednesday at Savvy Southern Style

  1. HI Debra! The bird pictures are so lovely and I really like the old fashioned looking graphics. Your home is always so beautiful.
    Hope you're doing well.
    Be a sweetie,

  2. I love that Paris sign, how pretty! I will have to subscribe to the British Country Living, what beautiful pictures, I love anything English. We lived in England for four years when I was a child, and I will never forget almost being left at The Museum of Natural History in London during a field trip. Luckily my teacher found me before the bus left. What an adventure that would have been!

  3. What a fun and springified post! I love that breadboard. I also love presents to ourselves...always get exactly what we want! Maybe this week we'll just get snow and no ice!

  4. Oh Wow I think I like the bread board and sign together too! I considered getting a bread board and would love to have one but decided to wait for now. We have some big things to spend our money on this spring - like a new sidewalk and an a/c unit!

  5. That cutting board is huge, love it. I would love to find a marble board that big for Mr. to make his pies on. I hope you are having a wonderful weekend. Alaina

  6. Hi Debra... love love love those birdies!... I recently did a post about the Country Living UK as well, and also another one of my fav's from "across the pond"... they have stayed true to being a beautiful publication, I am really disappointed in the US Country Living and don't even buy it anymore... I love how those in the UK preserve old buildings, farmland, traditions, etc... seems like in the U.S. old buildings and trees are so often torn down, so sad... two of my nieces are going back to visit relatives in London the end of April and I have a list a mile long of things I want them to bring back to me!... your new breadboard is fabulous!... it really is the "big boy"!... hope you are feeling better... xoxo Julie Marie

  8. I have cancelled all my subscriptions to North American magazines and have buying European for some time. They "seem" to have less advertising and I find them generally more "artistic" and less "sameness". Sorry for sounding so cryptic.

  9. Now I have to go to the bookstore and get a copy for my mom and me! Looks like a beauty! The breadboard and wall plaque are great too. I've ordered a couple of things from Decor Steals but still haven't ordered from Antique Farmhouse. When those things pop up they sure are tempting.

  15. Wow that is one big bread board! Looks great where you have it sitting. Good thing I have not been sick this winter no telling how much fabric would have ended up in my stash if I would buy all that I look at on line. Have a great Sunday!

  20. Debra, I've long enjoyed reading the British publications. I haven't bought one recently, but your post makes me want to drive to B&N today to grab this month's issue.
That is a big boy bread board. Looks great! I've bought several things from Decor Steals and Antique Farmhouse. They offer some good buys.

  23. I had to smile...I am so guilty of scratching my head and looking puzzled when the UPS man comes! It's not that I order a lot, sometimes it just slips my mind that I might have placed an order the week or two before.

I love your breadboard and the Paris sign. I have always wanted to check out Decor Steals. And I've heard great things about the British version of CL. Such pretty illustrations!

    XO,
    Jane

  24. Hi Debra, I also love the UK Country Living. Wow, the bread board is larger than I thought it would be. They were sold out by the time I saw it and now seeing yours I am sick I didn't get one. Love the Paris sign too!

  25. Great breadboard and great Paris sign!

I love the bird pictures! I will check out my bookstore and see if they carry it.

  26. Wow, that bread board puts me in the mood for a big pizza pie. That bad boy is HUGE!! Love its scale! The bird illustrations are so sweet...I love doing bird drawings with my high school students...we often look at the work of John James Audubon as we do them. I love his work and if you ever read about the love story between him and his wife it's very romantic! People don't realize how many birds he had to kill though to get just a few good specimens for one painting...hundreds!!

  27. Debra, I had to laugh about not remembering what you order. I am the same way... just last week a box came to me with a cute black dress I completely forgot I ordered!
LOVE the breadboard! I missed that one!
I always read UK Country Living at Barnes and Noble. Great spring issue. I am a fan of bird pictures too!

  29. Swooning over the magazine photos. Country Living UK has been on my wish list for a very long time. I've never seen it here at the local bookstores, and the subscription price was beyond my reach.
I'm a birdie lover too, and I appreciate you sharing the gorgeous magazine pages!
That breadboard is impressive. So many possibilities!

  30. Thank you for sharing the UK Country Living magazine. I had no idea it existed. I used to subscribe to the American version and grew really tired of it. The UK version looks wonderful!

  34. Love your breadboard and the Paris sign. They make a lovely couple.
Hope you're feeling better and I'll have to go to Barnes & Noble, which is right next door to where I work and get a copy of the Country Living magazine. I think I've seen it on their newstand. Thanks for the head's up.
Your house is so light and airy. Makes me wish I had better light in my house, but I'd have to cut down my beautiful trees to achieve that.

  35. I too have been picking up & enjoying the UK version more than the US. Seems like the US one is not what it use to be, & way too many advertisements also. I keep the British version, & have been tossing/passing on the US ones. Might have to look into a subscription...might be less expensive than buying at B&N.

  41. Beautiful magazine. Perhaps truer to the old CL as the USA version is not what I remember it to be. I don't buy them anymore..they seem to be country-less whenever I pick one up in the grocery store

    ReplyDelete
  42. I agree, about the magazine. The only magazine I get is English Home. It's my favorite. Once I started getting that one it made the quality of others seem a bit inferior. I also LOVE British fabric and Farrow and Ball. It's a bit out of my price range though.

Love your new items. I've gone back to using wood cutting boards. It's so much easier chopping on wood.
