Hall Bath Project

I know, that's a blah title for a blogpost.

If you read my post on Sunday then you knew that I had my hand forced on a bathroom re-paint. This is a bath next to my studio, that isn't used much, except by me. I had some spots on the wall that needed to be touched up, (I do my own haircolor) but the paint had been a homemade color concoction by yours truly.

(Note to self...NEVER Never, do that AGAIN!!)

So when I tried to get the color matched, it DIDN"T match. I can't blame it on the paint people, the sample was old and small, yada yada yada.

When I painted a bigger section it was a gray-green, not a bad color...the problem is this bathroom is dark. No natural light but a skylight. So painting it a darker color wasn't going to work. I figured if I was going to have to re-paint, it would have to be "light and bright". I went to Home Depot and bought my fave paint, the two in one primer and paint Behr Premium Plus 2 in 1, and got to work.

It's a really pretty neutral paint color; a shade of linen that I love. I went to look for the paint sample sheet,  but it's nowhere to be found. My hallway is a disaster with all the stuff that was previously in the bathroom, now being on the hallway floor.

This little metal table and the oval antique mirror are the only things I've moved back in. Everything else is pending...I want to do something different. Uh huh, pending all over the hallway floor...

The 80's have called and they want
my tan and white cultured marble vanities back.

It's impossible to get good shots in here,
especially with me NOT in the mirror.

Here's the paint color "before", a green that was similar to my Dining Room.

You can see I tried out some gray,
but with the tan tub surround, it just wasn't happening.

So now I'm going to have to shop the house and garage for some decor,
and I have to repaint some frames for prints...
but at least I'm able to cross this off the "need to do" list.
I'll keep ya posted...

xoxo,

  2. I have had the same experience with mixing my own paint. So not a good idea. I like the green. The yellow in the green should brighten up the room. Can't wait to see it finished.

  3. Looks like you're making good progress on it. I know how hard it is to photograph a bathroom too. I don't know how professional photographers do it! They need to publish their tips. Ha! I like the direction you're taking your bathroom in so far. Can't wait to see it when it's all done.

  6. I'm making a note too to never do that! But 'ya gotta admit if you're gonna paint may as well decorate the new canvas even if it did create more work.

  14. Bathrooms with no windows are so hard to photograph, Debra; I know, I have two of them now! I have had that happen with trying to match paint before and I wind up repainting the whole room.

  17. I love the linen color for sure! It looks great. I love how fresh paint can make something on the old side or drab side look fabulous and new. Your cat loves it too I would think!

I'm with you, if something is without a lot of lighting, I always say go bright. Makes the room seem bigger.

    Love this post! xo

  25. I also redid my guest bath. I put a lamp on the vanity and hated the look of the cord. Too long. So ---- I chopped it off and reapplied the plug. Easy-Peasy! Just a thought!

  26. Well, it's a daunting task, one I also have staring me in the face... But I think I am up for it. Lighten it up some, infuse with a softer color ( walls are darker then I wanted.. but the painter just finished less than a year ago) , linen"framed" out behind some darker artwork... Just time to get going and you inspired me. Thanks
We have to stick together- always inspiring someone to JUST DO IT.. I know I will be glad when it's over.

  27. Bathrooms are a pain to paint. Lots of trimming. But your new color is so refreshing and pretty! Can't wait to see how you accessorize it! :)

  28. You nailed it with that paint color! The best thing to do is blend it in with stuff you aren't getting rid of like your vanity, etc. I have the same problem in my house. My bathrooms are definitely 2nd cousins to yours, having been built in the early 90s.
