Enjoying the moment...

That's what I'm doing today...
enjoying the moment.
God has been speaking to me alot about patience.
About living each day to the fullest.

That no longer means seeing how much
I can cram into 24 hours.

So today I'm savoring "winter".
When I was younger I was always in a hurry.
A hurry to "be done" with whatever I was going through.

Just wait till the kids get older.
Just wait till I get a bigger house.
Just wait till we can afford this or that.
Just wait till I have the time.

I love the change of seasons,
but I don't want to forget which one I'm in.

Spring will be here before we know it.
Then summer, and we will all be
sweating and fussing about the heat!

So today I'm enjoying "winter".

And being home, and sitting here
with a large gray cat
asleep in my lap.

Listening to the birds outside my window,
and watching her ears twitch
every now and again as her little
brain recognizes a familiar sound.

(I'm still enjoying my "New Year's tree".)

Different seasons reflect different moods,
and times in our life.
Don't miss out on what is right in front of you
because you may be in search of what's next.

Enjoy the moment.

Today I found this wonderful German die-cut calendar,
while I was searching for Valentines.
I had to stop and share this with all of you.

Have a wonderful winter day!
love,
Debra

  1. It seems you have quite a knack for enjoying the moment! Lots of lovely things to look at and appreciate. I don't have a cat, but having one curled up in my lap sounds divine!

  2. Thanks for giving a reminder about enjoying the moment-with 2 kids at home still-it seems we are always looking at what's next not always about what's now!
    Enjoy today,

  3. Hello Debra, oh wise one! Your post makes me miss Winter. Although I love our climate here in So. Cal, I do miss my snow fix. Haven't gone skiing for a couple of years...hubby has bad knees. I remember that Winter was a time for living a slower lifestyle...tea by the fire with a book. I will be visiting our son in Montana in March to get my ski time in. It will still be snowing in Montana in March!

  4. Thanks for the reminder... I get to spend an evening at home with my two little girls (10 and 6) while the boys are at a ball game. My hubby took the 4-wheel drive, so we're stayin' put. Thanks for your lovely thoughts of savoring the moment... I'm gonna try. :0)

  6. Guilty...wishing I could hear the birds sing!
I feel sorry for the little birds now so cold and lots of snow - I wonder how they survive.
But you are right... I will savor today.
    Thanks for the reminder
    Blessings

  11. Your post reminds me of one of my favorite scriptures, "Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content". Phil 4:11. You sound quite content, Debra. What a blessing!

    Warm Wishes!

  16. I am so glad I read your post today. Let me guess, you were in your 30's when you had that "what's next?" syndrome? I'm just guessing cause, I know I have it bad and I'm in my thirties. I have been reminding myself lately to calm down and not worry so much about "time". I have to enjoy my amazing and beautiful family!
Thank you for posting this because I think it helped something click inside me.
    Blessings to you

  17. Hey Dawn. That is a message that has been speaking to me loud and clear lately. It's funny it starts with a whisper and grows each day. Learning to be content and learning patience is something I have long needed a lesson in. I too always want to see the end instead of just enjoying the process. Geez, I must be growing up ~ it sure took long enough. LOL.

    xxoo's....Tracy :)

  19. Absolutely true. So much time is wasted on, "I'll do this when".... Just live for today and savor the time we have now!

  20. Debra, amen to that. THIS moment is all we got. The rest of them aren't promised to us.
    Blessings for your day!

  21. Thanks. I'm guilty of either looking
forward to a future day. Or back to
the "Good Old Days". When I need
    to be thankful for "Now".

  22. Debra,
This is wonderful. I, too, am learning to slow down and savor each moment. It's hard to do in today's fast paced chaos, but it's well worth the extra effort. Enjoy your winter and your lovely grey cat!!
