Where were you 37 years ago today?

It's no secret that I love plaid. Yep, just love it, always have...always will. I love it so much that I wanted my bridesmaid's dresses to be plaid. Now you have to admit that a Christmas wedding is a place and time where you can love plaid and actually "get away with it"! Now if I were being married today, this may be what I would have chosen. Cute, cute, cute!

This would have been my invitation.
YES! Plaid, plaid, plaid!

My groom would have worn this vest.
Oh yes, I would have made him wear this vest!

And I would have worn these...

Well, maybe these.

But because it was 37 years ago,
Now don't laugh...

because we were TOTALLY in ST?YLE
I had this instead!

Even though it's just a tad
 "outdated by today's standards,
I still love it, and that evening was so beautiful!
 Wow, we were so young!
Hope you have regained your composure.
All you younger girls probably had a good chuckle,
but all you gals my age, understand the ruffles,
and the organdy aprons.

Anyway, today is Our Anniversary.
37 years of being together,

"For richer, for poorer,
in sickness and in health,
Till death do us part".

Still love this handsome guy.

And thank you, Lord,
He still loves me.

Debra

  9. I'm always amazed that bridesmaids still talk to the bride after the wedding....what we do to each other in the name of fashion!
What...you couldn't find that vest for your handsome hubby back in the day? You've got one year on me girly girl and my dresses were just as fashion forward as yours!
Love the last photo...and y'all still act like newlyweds, right?
Congratulations on 37 years and still counting. In this day and age, 10 is a milestone, but 37 and without ever being on the 10 o'clock news...wow!

  30. Time does change things, doesn't it? Ours was 34 years ago . . . I had robin's egg blue, or as close as I could get to it, in November. Remember those days? If it wasn't a seasonal color, you could forget about buying it. My Mother worked like crazy to secure enough baby blue polyester doubleknit {eek!} for two bridesmaid's gowns. It was the only fabric she could find in nearly the correct color. With rented altar arrangements and honeycomb tissue bells, our marriage began. You know how funny it is that eventually I became a florist and wedding consultant?
I completely enjoyed your spin! Happy Anniversary!

Congratulations on the 37 years. I bet in another 37 years today's plaid will look just as odd ( no offense here, I got married at the same time) as the 1972 version looks today! Enjoy your Anniversary!

  41. Congrats on your anniv! I think everyone will snicker at their wedding pictures when enough time passes, but they will always see the beauty in their choices. The plaid dresses are so cute and very bold. I love the dresses in the first picture. A modern interpretation of your wedding. You were a girl ahead of her time. Have a great time with your hubby.

  45. Happy Anniversary Debra!
If you loved the plaid and it made you happy, it was the right choice - the important thing is that you married the right man!! Boy, I sound just like my dear mother, she always told me forget about all the wedding trappings just make sure the right guy is standing up there waiting for you! I know she would be happy because I got the right man too!
I'll be following along, I thought I did that before, oops.
37 years is so wonderful, enjoy your day and get ready to ring in another fabulous year together!

  47. Very neat post. You have a great way of telling a story!! I admit, the 1st set of bridesmaid dresses made a better impression than the second...however, the joyous look on everyone's face in your wedding party is priceless. So you get my vote. AND, it was a sign of the times!!

Happy Anniversary from someone who has just celebrated many long, happy years together. Ain't it great?!

  51. Congratulations on 37 years. That's a wonderful accomplishment. I remember patterns like this. What a beautiful couple you make, and I love the plaid dresses. Perfect for a Christmas wedding. I remember this type of pattern with the ruffles too, it was very popular then. I'm kind of hoping some kind of sleeved style comes back in before my daughters are old enough to get married. I hope you had a wonderful anniversary.

  54. I too am MAD FOR PLAID. My husband is of Scottish descent and the Gunn dress plaid is just lovely. We have scarves, bow ties, caps, on and on. When he retired from the military we had a full on Scottish theme. A piper piped him into the ceremony, his mother and sisters we given Scottish heather and plaid ribbon corsages, hmmm, maybe I should blog about this. :)

  59. Congratulations on your 37 years!! We just celebrated our 21st this New Years Eve...I will admit I smiled and chuckled but it was mainly because I know there is a picture somewhere at my mamas home with me about 37 years ago wearing a plaid outfit :) But mainly I am a lil envious because I have no pictures, nada, zip of our wedding. 60. Debra, what a glorious post! I just had to come see all about your plaid wedding! You are so right, those gowns were totally in style for the times! And just perfect for a December wedding.

You look just like a Barbie doll in your beautiful gown and veil! Such a handsome couple. Is the bridesmaid just to the left of you related to you? She is a doll, too, and reminds me SOOOO much of a girl my daughter cheered with in high school! Now, I've got to go back to your WEDDING BLOG PARTY post and look at the pics there again!
